Dish Programming Changes (Effective August 1st)

Hi all, finally have time today to do it via the website. At first, the CSR told me he wouldn't give me the discount, but when I politely asked if he believed it was fair and the CSR immediately dropped the $10 fee, saying he was opening up an exception for me.

Oh, and for those of you on the annual packages, I was previously told I had to switch to monthly, but not this time. I suppose I should wait to see the channels in my guide.

Well it's been about 12 hours since I was told the channels were added and they are not appearing activated in my guide. Should I keep waiting or contact Dish again?

Instead of calling or using chat I tried adding the platinum programming using my account at the Dish website. I already have HD programming, so I had to untick the (Gold) HD addon option, then click review. The next screen showed the HD & Platinum programming as an option so I selected it and saved the changes. The platinum channels were instantly available at my house.

Very interesting. Was HD & Platinum the ONLY option?

I really think that the old packages are simply dead, and this is the singular HD option now...just as it was a few years back. However, it is in their financial interest to keep people in their old packages as long as possible...hence the pushback from the CSRs.

On thing though...my account does not actually say "HD & Platinum". It still says "Gold HD", and Platinum is not an option...but I still have the channels.

EDIT...now it does. "HD & Platinum" is now the only option on my account.

No. You should have had them in about 5 minutes. Call again.

Well, this is interesting. It seems they are having technical difficulties.

TazmanianD: I had a chat with a CSR about 12 hours ago to add the Platinum HD channels to my programming. He said they had been added and I would have them within 10 minutes, but it's been 12 hours and they are not appearing activated in my programming guide.
(03) Ted B.: I'd be happy to assist you with that TazmanianD!!
(03) Ted B.: Let me check that.
(03) Ted B.: I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. We are unable to add that programming due to some technical difficulties.
(03) Ted B.: We will add that programming for you as soon as the technical issue is resolved.
TazmanianD: Okay
TazmanianD: How long should I wait?
(03) Ted B.: Yesterday, in the evening we found the technical issue, we have escalated it, however, it take a maximum of 3 days.
TazmanianD: Okay, thanks.

This has actually tempted me a little to switch from TurboHD so I could have NBA TV also. I always thought it was outrageous to pay $10 for that 1 channel before, but if I could get it with the price I was paying before that would be great. My wife and I actually miss a few of the channels we lost switching to TurboHD anyway. My question is, if I switch from TurboHD Silver to Classic Silver w/HD would I get the platinum automatically or would I have to go through a CSR to get Platinum added on?

I have a hard time believing that, since folks have been getting them added all morning. Call this time.

Perhaps it's specific to those of us on the annual package. Unless I missed it, I haven't heard anyone with an annual package say they've been able to get this added successfully. Someone earlier said they were told by the CSR that the software wouldn't allow them to add the package unless they switched to monthly. Maybe that's the technical difficulty.

Log into your account on Dish's website and choose the "Programming" section.

If you change to a "Classic #" package, under HD options you should see "HD & Platinum" as an available add-on option.

I did the change last night, it takes about 3-4 minutes for the channels to show up on your receiver and you don't have to talk or type to a CSR.

You haven't answered anything except confirm my increasing impression that you remind me of a jackass. lol

If you don't have anything helpful to say, don't reply.

I would say that it is one of the most helpful things you will read.

If it is August 4th and you want to know what is going to happen on August 5th, wait 24 hours
.

If instead, on August 4th, you have spent an hour asking people what will happen, you have wasted an hour that you could have spent doing something more worthwhile.

What happens on August 5th will not necessarily have anything to do with what anyone says on August 4th, including those who are supposed to be performing the actions.

While this applies to everything, it is especially true of Dish Network. ;)

Just FYI, I guess they sent the following out to CSR's tonight. I got a few copies of this. It appears they are trying to talk customers out of things and why.
HD Grand fathering vs New customers HD 8/1Programming

In regards to concerns for existing customers for grandfathered HD there are 3 key points to keep in mind:

1. The subscription TV industry always includes offers for new customers that existing customers do not receive.
The problem with this point is that it does not apply to this case, since they eliminated Platinum.

All of the Dish retailer and CS rep memos talk as if Dish were keeping Platinum, and giving new customers a $10 credit for Platinum (which- for example - is how they do "HBO free for 3 months" ).

Instead, they eliminated Platinum altogether (hence the references to "grandfathered").

As such, I do not see why Scott's original suggestion to "remove HD from your account, and then add it back" should not continue to work.

The only difference should be a $5 downgrade fee. If that is what Marketing was upset about losing, they would have mentioned it explicitly in the memo.
