I would love to get the additional HD channels now and maybe others but I don't want to pay much more. Any help?

If you have Absolute you are already getting all the Platinum channels that just became available at no additional cost.....

Of course I read the OP..... I thought he was referring to the Platinum channel that others were getting for no cost?

Absolute subs can not get them, nor can Turbo subs. That's why he is looking for help.

well gee, that very odd because I am an absolute customer and I already had and still have all those channels in the Platinum pak???

I have the absolute pak and have had the platinum since they were first turned on.
Absolute subs have had HDNET, MGM, and universal for a while.
The rest are just in the past couple of months.

As an absolute subscriber, you are at the mercy of dish.
If you want more, then you will have to pay more and change your package.
But once you change your package, you can never get it back.

Thats why I have no intention of changing my subs.

Stick with the Absolute unless you are ready to double your bill for a few channels you'll probably never watch. With the way the packages are going now with the lineup's and their costs, if they kick me off absolute, they can just cancel my account.

Ditto! I called them 2 months ago and to get the extra 2 or 3 new HD channles they offered some promo that looked attractive until I asked what the rate woudl be after promo expires and it was like $20 more than I pay now! They ar enuts, I'll live without the extra channles and since I have no obligation to stay will wait until I think DirecTV offers something better or Dish takes their heads out of their butts.

Choke

I think you'll choke to death first. I just under contract again now that I have the 722k and the only channel I'm not getting that will make me jump the shark is after BBCA HD hits the air.

What's a (non-contract) Absolute HD ($29.99) subscriber to do?

Current missing: BET HD, Encore HD(E), FOX Business Network HD, FOX News Channel HD, FX HD, MSNBC HD, MTV HD, NICK HD, SPEED HD and VH1 HD.

That was the whole basis of the HD Only, aka DishHD, aka HD Absolute plan: less money for less channels. This package came out at the beginning of 2008 when Dish only had 30-something national HD channels. It was a great deal at the time, and as Dish continued to add channels to the package it turned into a screaming deal -- arguably the best value in pay TV. But they're done adding into it; they're eliminating both the Platinum HD package and the HD only packages as options for new subscribers. It's uncertain how long you'll be able to stay on the plan, but you probably have a couple years left of being grandfathered into being able to keep that package.

Long term, as more channels go HD, the gap between any potential HD-only packages and a standard package is equalize out. (this is likely behind Dish's recent elimination of the TurboHD plans)

In any case, Absolute HD subscribers need to face the same choice that everybody else does: pick the lowest cost plan that includes all the channels you want, or accept the compromise of paying less but having to give up a few channels.

MSNBC HD is included in the HD Absolute package.

There are only 2 additional channels that I really want -- my RSN's. I would pay $10 more to get them if I could, but not $30 or $40 more to get a package that gives them to me along with all the current channels I have...

I think you are mistaken. No one with Absolute HD has ever said that on here.

What package do you have?

Perhaps you are confusing that channel with CNBC.

The channel you are referring to is #209 or #9511.

I think everyone would love that - more HD with no additional cost.

Sounds like the atmosphere of much of the whole country right now: we want it all but don't want to pay for it.

I'm happy to pay more to get more, but I'm most happy with Absolute HD programming right now. Glad I got in when I could.

We actually get Encore HD (E) with Absolute...on mapdown channel 340.
