Hello,

Aside from the inherent risks of buying something used is there anything I need to know about buying and using a used Dish Receiver? I guess my main question is, will Dish give me any trouble about activating a used receiver I didn't buy from them.

I am needing a new/used box for a couple of TV's we just added to the house. This is going to be a third box. The other 2 are both dual tuner HD/DVR's. I've got a back feed coming to my office here but of course it's SD and the TV is HD.

Any recommendations for a good box to pick up? Ideally a dual tuner but doesn't have to be?

Thanks
David

As long as the receivers from a account that was left in good standing dish will activate the receiver (possibly reluctantly depending on the CSR). Before purchasing the receiver I would call in to check that the receiver was from a clean account all you need is the two sets of # from the back of the receiver one starting R00 and the other S00 or S19. The 322 is your only option for an SD DUO but you can probaly pick up a 211 (SD SOLO) for slightly more. Hope this helps

Yes it does, thanks.

Would I not be able to use a 622 for some reason?

First question is what do you have for satellte dishes? If you have a dish 500 aimed at 110/119 with a Dish Pro Plus Twin and 61.5 you are maxed out with 2 dual receivers. You will need to add more equipment than just receivers. From your original post I would expect you to be looking for a HD receiver for the office and then use the SD feed for your expansion.

Whenever buying used DISH receivers get the R00 and S00 numbers, I like to call tech support, but whatever call DISH and check for outstanding balances on account/ that the receiver is owned not leased and that it has been released for redeployment. If there is a balance somebody has to pay it do you want to? If leased DISH owns it and it can't be legally sold to you, but many for sale are really leased. Not released for redeployment, theft, product of divorce etc. It might not be a bad idea to call and check twice on one you want to buy. I bought a 625 off eBay really cheap, before buying I followed my advice and checked to be sure it was clear. When I got it I called in to activate and discovered my clear receiver was leased and had a $960 outstanding debt. After working through ceo@echostar I did get it free and clear but I now feel I should have checked twice before bidding.

If you need additional equipment, rewiring besides the receivers it may be cheaper to go through DISH and get the install warranteed.

In regards to being maxed out that's what I thought as well. However when Dish was out this week I mentioned that and he looked at me like I was crazy. He stated all I needed was another box. In fact he got customer service on the phone for me to get me a quote. Now I'm really confused. <g>

Menu 6>1>3 should bring up your info screen line(h) tells me what I have for LNBs. If you have a DP Twin you are probably maxed out. If you have a 1000.2 or a 1000.4 you probably have an open port for another receiver. It is your system and I can't see it to tell you what you have. You will have to do a little work to identify your components.

Ok, just home from a long night at work and about to go to bed. But before I do wanted to get you a reply.

Under line (H) device it says exactly: " DPP Twin, Twin(1), Twin(2), Dual(3)"

Thanks
