Get FiOS and drop down to a minimum package if you're on contract. I'll soon be dropping to AT100+ from AEP. Call retention every day. Maybe get rid of a 211 as well. :mad: Use DISH for moving. Give a receiver out to a friend. Buy a A TiVO for use with FiOS or Uverse or Cable. Hassle me and I'll CANCEL. Don't feed the DISH pig.

OP's point is that he's paying a "lease" fee for boxes he owns...
Oops, I totally missed the fact he owns his own equipment. If that is the case the he shouldn't be under contract, which means he has more leverage with E*. I can see them willing give some discounts; of course they might want a commitment (which I'd only agree to if the discount was for the life of the new commitment). Else the OP should some or all of his rec'rs ASAP, before Joe Public hears about the new fees, and just cut his losses.

I agree that it is BS that E* is charging the same fees on leased and owned equipement.
 
Sharing an account is illegal. You also say "all this for a $15 package", but you seem to forget that you also have 3 receivers. The price increase is very big for you, I admit, but you do have TV in at least 3 and maybe more rooms of your house.

The practice is not "illegal". Account sharing is merely a violation of satco policy.

Now, i think the additonal fees are ludicrous.
Now only am I Dish customer, I am also a technician.
Therefore this hits me twice.
Once in the bill I get once a month. And the reduction in the amount of work I get.
No doubt, there will be a reduction in the amount oif business for Dish because of the now non competitve pricing.
Dish screwed up big time. Their DVR charges were always lower than the dominant cable company in the region. After 2/1 that will no longer be the case.
Dish is not doing their homework. They are not paying attention to marketing and consumer spending habits.
Bottom line, Dish can offer HD, bells and whistles. Customers shop on PRICE FIRST.
The typical consumer does not consider value.
Yes we know that General Instruments, Motorola's and the other brand of DVR Cable TV uses are pretty much stone knives and bearskins compared to Dish's offerings. But most consumers don't care about that. They are looking for a cheaper way to get what they have now.
Those people in that big building in Littleton, CO are MORONS...M-O-R-O-N-S!!!!

I got wondering about something... So i called E from my cell phone and talked to sales, nice fellow jack. I kinda feel bad for them. He glowed about saving me money. Its interesting he asked for my address, to check line of site:) Yeah sure.

I designed the DREAM system 3 722Ks one each on 3 high def tvs, the newest a 52 inch:) Also feeding tv in the kitchen my shop and one in the bathrioom:) with AEP

He said 3 722s were pretty unusual.......

Anyhow he gave me a quote, I asked detailed questions:)

he said 722Ks $7 each, no DVR fee.

I couldnt help myself:( I asked him what happens Feb 1st when the 17 buck fee for 722 kicks in and the 6 buck DVR fee:(

With the price change official shouldnt they infor new / poterntial subs?

I do agree that E by appearing to rip people off is opening the door to bad things.

I must have demoralized that sales person


E should be ashamed they are acting dish honestly by still selling the old prices!

I went by the verizon store on mc knight road, parking lot jammed someone was backing OUT of the parking lot. I fail to understand why with so much retail space vacant on mc knght they dont move.

one day someone will get killed or hurt bad........

I did the math, It will now cost me a total of $372 plus tax a year to lease my own equipment from dish. I won't be making any commitments when they could change the game when ever they want. I had started with AEP many years ago and have downgraded as the price would rise. I'm at the bottom now and I really don't have any leverage since I only have the welcome pack. I decided to keep the 722 and welcome pac which I think will be $20.99,mainly because I have a ton of stuff on EHD's. I can add the local cable basic package for about $10 more on my high speed internet for the rest of the house if needed and will get netflix for my kids wii and xbox for $9 " they will be thrilled". It will all add up to less than I'm paying now before the new price increase But my family will have so much more to watch most of it commercial free. I also have the 722 feeding 2 HD TV's in different rooms 1 componet and 1 hdmi, and also have thru tv 2 , 4 other tv's for a total of 6, "I have a big house and a garage". So for $21 plus tax I will get my money's worth from dish and will never upgrade again. If I ever really need to watch something I can always go to my local cable co. and get a dvr box for a month or less "no commitment" and take it back when I'm done. I've always been a big supporter and promoter of dish to my friends and family but this fee crap has ended that. when they all get an increase in fees they will blame it on me:mad: I hope many people read this and the other threads that are about this crap and downgrade to starve the new PIG in town "DISH". I just thought of a great new ad for direct or other cable co's, get the right's to the eagles tune there's a "NEW KID IN TOWN" and sing "there's a new PIG in town" --------damn now I can't get it out my head.
 
Bob, they have to still sell the current pricing structure. If they told everyone to wait, there would be no dish sales until the new promotions started. Same thing we have to go through as retailers. Do I tell a customer to wait till the new promo starts or do I make the sale now?

Up tiill now increase were a few bucks, not 30 some.

Yeah I own my receivers, E s ripping people off.

I wonder about the long term effect on Es reputation. A new or under contract gets a 20 or 30 buck increase. Add DVR, Add locals, Add extra receiver increase>

They may be locked in contract but how many will tell EVERYONE including the media?

In tonights news Dish customers who just signed up for new service find their first bill is 25 bucks a month more than they were quoted:( and over the year thats a 300 buck increase:( They signed a 2 year contract a 600 dollatr increase.

Geez that kinda news will really help sales:(

Most customers ask ME if their quoted rate is going tobe what is on their bill.
My canned response is
if you have any billing inquiries plaese use this( numberon the back of the user's guide or on your invoice) to call Dish with your concerns.
Many custys new in the last few months are going to be burning up Dish's phones riping them a new one over these ridiculous price increases.
To make matters worse, these are FEES. As a consumer, I view the word "fee" as a reason to extract more money from customers for no apparent reason.
Fees area ripoff. Plain and simple.
And with consumers being so price conscious, these new fees will cause lots of trouble for Dish.

When you sign up you agree to Dish Networks Terms and Conditions, and one of those terms are Prices are subject to change at anytime.

You agreed to that by activating service, the AG's office can't do a thing.

I do agree that Dish should be alerting customers to this change now and not waiting to February 1st when they officially kick in.
 
I wonder if E will rescind the increase, when the bad publicity and churn rate gets high enough? At least for the muti receiver homes?

I think this will get ugly media attention.

That would be if you leased it, a lot of us own our equipment. Now if they want to reimburse me for my receivers that I was able to buy with their blessing than that would be different. then I and others could make a decision based on price comparison for a leased system. What they will find out is perception is 99.9% of the truth and soon dish will get the reputation of the highest fees and gigantic price hikes in the middle of a contract. I remember when dish passed 14 million subs, they will again only heading back to 13.

On star would automatically report how many times you used the wipers:) How many times the headlights:) How many times the heater:) Been over state lines? The out of area fee, no FCC rules apply:) Geez that radio fee adds up:)

They would push you to have CC autopay.

The fees would be a kller:(

Well as little as 2 years ago I got the pitsburgh post gazette to run a couple consumer stories about blatant rip offs of consumers. Sorry I cant tell you what they were, the companies were huge, and one changed its policies dramatically after the story ran:) The other modified things a bit>

Most love the rip off ones, Espically in the paper side they have a column they must fill daily or whatever.

Yvonne Zanos KDKAs consumer reporter did a excellent job, unfortunately she just died of cancer just 50 something she ran a story a nite on stuff wether it worked as promised etc.

I also generated a BIG spread about weight loss surgery:) Got my picture in ther paper and met people I never knew who had the same surgery after reading about it.

Media needs stories to survive and consumer reports should love this:)
 
You guys know full well the best way to let Dish know if you think they are out of line on costs. Drop their service. I don't care if you are on contract or have money tied up in equipment, if this increase is that out of line, you should pay the fee to end the contract and move on. And, then don't take any price break to stay.
The other answer is to downgrade, either how many boxes or programming, and tell Dish when you do why you are doing it, and that you will dropping them altogether when your contract is up. Just make sure to compare your final cost for like programming and equipment for the next provider you want to go to.
 
We go thru this nonsense every year.

Pay it, or leave. No one is forcing you. No one forced you to BUY your equipment, in fact many advise against it. It's TV. Just TV. Quit trying to make it seem so uber-important. It doesn't matter one whit what you think. They can change their price structure any time. And like it or not, you signed an agreement letting them do so. You don't like that? Maybe you should stick to cable or OTA. But whining about how you think the big bad company is so unfair just reflects on you. You're certainly not going to hurt them. They'd probably prefer to see you whining against one of their competitors.

Goods and services go up every year. Very little decreases in price. And you'd better get used to the idea that OTA stations plan on (& have already started demanding) BIG increases in fees from satcos. Who do you think will foot that bill? You don't like this year's price increases (where some have the same or even a lower bill)? Wait until we see next year- I expect a whopper of an increase, unless both satcos stand FIRM. And then we'll see whining about losing locals or other stations. It's BUSINESS. If you cave in to every demand, you'll Detroit the industry.

Vote with your money. Give your business elsewhere if you think it's better elsewhere. That's how the market economy works.

Just because you allow yourself to get upset over this - to a degree many find WAY out of line - why do you think your AG or other enforcement type will care? Really care? At my company, we've had people report major violations, and THEFT, and prosecutors need to make hard decisions about what to pursue. They have to pass on some fairly serious crimes, for lack of resources. And you want them to take action because YOU don't want to pay your TV bill? Get real.

Try telling all your friends, family and co-workers how evil you think Dish is. Tell them how you think a company that came from literally nothing, and a self-made billionaire, are morons, stupid or worse. Find out how many roll their eyes and start avoiding you. Take the hint.

Whining against something you cannot change is really non-productive, and not healthy for you.
