Hello,
I've been installing and servicing Dishnetwork systems for over 8 years now. I have a few MDUs and headends installed and performing fine as well as hundreds of happy residential customers.

Recently I've seen a problem arise using the DPP technology. It seems that on a few of my residential installations bringing in 119/110 (I'm in the Virgin Islands) with a DPP33 and or a DPP44 that I'm seeing issues.

On one house they have one 612 and two 311s on a DPP33 and 2 DP lnbs.
It has been a constant problem with signal loss to the 612. Signal is there on it's meter (transponder on the dish screen) but when changing the channels it searches before locking in. Sometimes briefly and sometimes extended periods. I've tried everything from replace lnbs, replaced switch, tried a DPP44, Sonora dual amp etc.... Nothing helps. Finally I discovered that by removing the 311s cables from the switch the 612 works perfectly. Thinking I had a bad 311 in the loop I tried hooking in just one or the other. It doesn't seem to matter which one I hook back in to creater the errors on the 612. Immediately! And I repeated the test several times. At this point I used the 2nd set of cables from the dish and hooked into the 2nd port on the lnbs and ran those to a DP34 for the 311s and used the DPP33 for the 612. Same damn loss of signal issue.

On another install I have a 722 and a 612 sharing the DPP33. 110/119
The 612 is doing the same thing here but I haven't been back to see if unplugging the 722 will effect it's performance.

On one of these I've grounded at the switch and on the other I've grounded the 2 cables at the entry point.

Starting to trend towards the 612s being too sensitive or something. I'm at my wits end here.

Any ideas? I would appreciate any insight. Dish tech support is useless!

Thanks, Alan

We've seen the same issue when different accounts are sharing the same dish(s) or switch, like in an apartment house. We've found that if the apartments each have their own electric meter that they can't share the dish/switch. We recently had to install a separate dish for a customer who's 301 had been sharing a common dish/switch set-up on the building for years, but when he got a new 612 from Dish it would no longer work right, just as you described in your post.

So now we install with a common dish/switch only when it's also a common electrical service.

Hope that helps, Good Luck.

That does help. Thanks.
But why would this be? Dish advocates mdu installations using DPP and DP switches don't they?
On one of my scenerios they do have a separate meter. The other is a vacation villa (311s) and a caretakers apartment (612). Not sure they have separate meters but don't think so.

What would cause this is this is the case? Is there a work around?

I actually have several MDUs with separate meters that work fine. Seems to be only the 612 that's effected but not enough data yet.

Someone please help!!!!
If everyone requires their own dish that changes thing dramatically.

It's happened to us with 612's, 722's, 222's and 322-1's. The only solution we found was to install a separate dish.

Edited to add that it doesn't seem to matter whether they're on the same account or different accounts, the only thing in common we've found was that they were on different electric meters.

JSheridan,
Do you see this issue only with the 612?

Thanks for the replies!

But.....This is crazy for MDU installations Maybe use Legacy equipment?

Has anyone else determined this electric meter problem?

I posted in your other thread... But after reading this have you tried plugging them into a surge protector instead of the wall? It should block any signals the receiver might send out via Homeplug...

That's a good point, but in my scenario (in the other post), the other receivers were 311's which, as far as I know, could care less about the Homeplug technology. Not sure though...

I'm a computer tech. and ham operator for more than 20 yrs and have come across similar occurrences especially with ham equipment. The phenomenon of the standing wave. This is what it sound like to me. Or as we some times call them "phantoms of the coax cable". Or just plain harmonic interference.

Placing some sort of blocking filter could eliminate this problem.

I could be wrong but this may be food for thought.
