I am building a home theater in my basement. I currently have a vip 622 in my living room. When the theater is complete (April timeframe) I am thinking of moving the 622 downstairs to the theater, and adding a 922. My Theater will have a mac mini as a htpc.

I was thinking I would put the 922 in my living room and use its sling features to play content downstairs. I was wondering about the Sling capability of the 922

Can the 922 sling HD content? If so what resolution 1080i /1080p?
Does it work with the normal sling player for the mac?

I think the answer will be yes when they get it working. It's still in beta and the sling is not working reliably now. I believe Scott said they were redoing the sling software to take advantage of new technology. I'm not convinced it will be ready by April. That being said I like the unit and think the final product will be worth it.

The sling feature has been working. I have used it on my iPhone and on my laptop. As for the resolution, I don't have any solid info.

I'm having trouble figuring this out, but am I correct in thinking that the Sling in the 922 does not necessitate having a Wired/Wireless router? IE. It is a wireless access point?

as of this week.....

The Sling technology takes place of TV2. Which means that it is not optional. There will be no modulated back feed to tv 2 in your home. TV2 will only be accessed through your pc or mobile device. IT has a min requirement of 1.5mb down and 600kbs upload through your modem. The TV2 will be HD in your HOME NETWORK ONLY. Any connection that is remotely accessed through the internet will only be broadcasted in SD only. That is the information being handed to our RSP as of this week.

Sling is a technology that allows remote access through networked devices. whether over your home network or over the internet. The receiver will have to be connected to a router or modem via hardline. The only wireless option we have heard of as of yet has to do with an optional tv that uses "wireless" technology to receive audio/video. Meaning there will not be RG6, composite, component, HDMI cables to the tv streaming data.

Correct as of this week, however as Scott has already posted. He had discussions with Charlie and this is not going to be the case in the future.

I understand how Sling works. I have a PRO-HD and have had a Classic (which I just sold on ebay). So with this wireless optional TV......How does it communicate with 922 if there isn't a wireless component in it?

Your 922 is plugged into your network which is usually plugged into a wireless router.

That is how it send stuff wirelessly.

I have also seen in the past a USB Wireless device that you can plug into the 922, but that may have been more of a proof of concept then an actual planned piece of hardware.

It seems to me if all the companies w Blu Ray players that wirelessly connect to the Internet can do it, Dish can.

It should once the Slingplayer for the Android operating system is released. The new 4G unit shown yesterday is running the Google Android system.
