I am planning to get dish and I have a few questions. Thanks in advance for helping me out.

1.) I believe I need to sign a 2 year contract for credits below and activation around it.
2.) Can I add a clubdish referral to the order. If yes, how does it work
3.) any other credits that I can add.
4.) which receiver would you suggest for main TV. Is there anyway to reduce the receiver and dvr fee
5.) do I need my receiver to be connected to the phone line all the time. I put pull the wires across the room. Is there any way around this?

Thanks again

1. Yes, you get savings for signing the 2 year contract, and you do not have that $99 activation fee this way.

2. You should be able to add a ClubDish referral to the order. When I did mine last year, it was $30 off the first two months. However, it is now $50 off the first two months. If you need one, I should be able to e-mail you one if you want through Dish's website if you do not have one. Just let me know; you can even private message me if you want (by clicking on my name and clicking on send a message or something similar to that). You have to use it at the time of the order from what I understand. I told mine to the CSR during the chat as well, and I went back on my chat to get my credits. However, I chanced it with not having a code, but I told them that was the only way we would sign up. So, finally, they allowed it. Long story short; it is best to have a printed code or a code. I would guess that DishStore honors ClubDish referrals. I believe Dish has a section to put in the code; I guess they have the same (not sure). You would probably have to ask Claude about that.

3. I am not sure about any other credits. You got the $15 off a month promotion. I see the $22 off for HBO and Showtime for 3 months (Just make sure that you cancel after 3 months if you no longer want it either online or by phone). When I signed up, I got the insurance free for 9 months (I think that you can cancel after the trial period if you no longer want it; otherwise, it continues. If you really do not want it, then you would most likely want to cancel after the trial period since there is now some cancellation charge. I would maybe even ask before canceling if I would be charged for canceling. I do not think they do as long as you do it by the end of the trial period).

4. I would suggest one of the HD recievers since they cost the same as SD recievers. It all depends on how many TVs you want to have service for. So, if you have 2 TVs, you could add an HD Duo reciever or HD DVR Duo reciever at no additional monthly fee. If you do 2 TVs, then you would have the $6 DVR fee a month. If you have 1 TV, then I hear that you can somehow buy an external hard drive (EHD) to make a 211 (I believe) into a DVR without paying the DVR fee. The 211 is an HD Solo receiver. I believe that just this one TV and HD Solo receiver would not cost you extra a month. However, the upfront costs for the device would cost.

5. There has been some debate about the phone line connection recently. I believe if you add after 2/1, then you should not have to pay the TV2 fees or no phone line/broadband connection (especially if on paperless and autopay...I am not saying you have to go that route, but that is what I have been reading for those currently getting a TV2 charge). You could also plug in your broadband; I believe that would also help you have access to some Dish On Demand programming. Maybe someone else can also comment on this. I really do not think it is required anymore since after 2/1 since there are no more phone line or broadband credits for being plugged into the receiver. What we did was get a wireless phone jack for our living room 222k HD Duo receiver.

I hope this helps.:D

#5. If you get the HD DVR, ideally you want to get an internet connection to the receiver to add the DishONLINE features..Free movie and TV downloads. If you have high speed internet, you can get this connection to the receiver with a slinglink, and not have to have an ethernet cable ran across the room.

Here's the slinglink ethernet connector:

Would this also work if I just want to use it for internet access for my TV - TV has built in Netflix streaming, but requires an ethernet connection (wireless not built in)?

Yes if you have a VIP211 you can add an external hard drive and turn it into a DVR and you will NOT have to pay any DVR fee. It will, however, cost you $40 to activate
and you will not be able to get any movies on demand.

5. Plus one on the internet connection. There are three ways to get it. With an Ethernet cable. With a Power Line sender plugged in to the wall. Dish DVR has Power Line built in. Or wireless with Wireless Access Point or Gaming Adapter. Most wireless routers have the ability to act as a Access Point.

If you do not already have one, shop around for a cheap Wireless Router and buy two. Do not hesitate to buy a refurbished router. Wireless network can be a bit tricky to set up and user error results in many wireless returns. One key you want to look for is "act as Wireless Access Point" in the description. You should be able to pick up 2 for $40 or less.
