Anyone know why EPIX is called "EXPIX1" in the channel naming scheme? As far as I know there is only one EPIX HD channel. At least their web site does not indicate more than one EPIX channel. Though, they do have an option to watch video on demand on their web site. IS DISH planning providing EPIX movies on Demand on other EPIX channels?

What absoluteHD gets

There's always someone wanting to know if absoluteHD subs get any of the new channels. ;)

Channel Additions:
380 - EPIX1 [MPEG4 HD] added to Ciel-2 129W TP 30 ConUS beam (A)
9408(191) - G4 [MPEG4 HD] added to Ciel-2 129W TP 26 ConUS beam (A)

I'm seeing EPIX1 in HD and G4 in SD - no other new channels in any resolution (I think G4 in SD may have already been available, but not certain).

Cheers!

Absolute gets Shorts and EPIX.

The Epix distribution mux on AMC 10 lists the following channels:

Epix 1 HD East
Epix 1 HD West
Epix 1 SD East
Epix 1 SD West
Epix 2 HD East
Epix 2 HD West
Epix 2 SD East
Epix 2 SD West

The Epix 2 channels don't appear to have any programming at this time as the bandwidth is only about 300 Kbps each.

Crap...

Looks like I get none of these........I guess I have to fight again for the switch from 110/119 & 65........and blow another day of work to wait for the installer.......crap. crap crap. But yay for everyone else.

So for all the hoopla over EPIX, I took a look last night and thought it stunk.

Looked down the guide for a few days and not a single movie I want to see. So whats the big deal about Epix?

Not as bad as retroplex. I watched 15 seconds of a movie with such bad acting, it must surely have been spliced together in somebody's basement!

Funny, VOOM was not as bad as some people, including DISH executives, was complaining about. While there was a lot of repetition on VOOM, it offered a number of genres that pleased many people. EPIX is a combo movie channel/special events channels. Essentially, it was to become another HBO or Showtime, but it only has a few studios feeding it. The VOD feature on the web site actually offers more variety that what they run on the air. However, EPIX, like all the premium services, go through cycles where they show great things in blocks and then goes through a stretch where they show not so great things.

As fro IndiePlex and RetroPlex, these channels are HD versions of what is shown on the Encore family of channels. Last night, on RetroPlex, they were showing Gunsmoke and The Virginia, to highlight Encore Westerns, for example. I will admit the black and white circa 1961 Gunsmoke and 1962 color The Virginia actually looked good on an HD channel considering these shows are nearly 40 years old and filmed long before digital and HD technology. But, MoviePlex (not on DISH), RetroPlex and IndiePlex try in some way replicate part of what was lost with VOOM. Too badd, I thought Monster HD and World Sport HD were two of the better HD channels on VOOM.

Old Movies shot on 35mm film are easy to convert to HD as the film had a higher resoultion. I see a Monty Python moive on Retro in HD and that looked amazing considering the age.
