Is there any way to organize your recordings on an external hard drive? Alphabetically or??? I can't see any option to do so. A real PITA to find the movie you want when you get a ton of 'em recorded. Also, am I correct in assuming once your household is authorized for an EHD you can just connect a 2nd one @ no additional charge and you're good to go?
Thanks for the help guys.

Ed

Haven't found a way to organize, but yes you can just add additional hard drives by plugging them in (can only have one drive connected/powered up at a time).

I thought your external drive inherited the sort & group settings you have for your internal drive. How do you have your internal drive settings??

By date. Doesn't seem like the EHD is doing that although it's difficult to tell since there is no date shown with the recording.

cosmo_kramer is right...the external drive inherits the sort & group settings you have for your internal drive. If you turn groups on and sort alphabetically your EHD will show up the same way.

Cosmo--Thank you and Tony!! You are correct! Changed my DVR setting to alphabetically and the EHD followed suit. MUCH better.:)

You guys are all right, I don't care what they say..............;):)

Yes but there are only 2 sort orders followed on the EHD, in tandem with the IHD. They are by date recorded by you and alphabetical with case significant. Groups apply with the latest date used for date-sort order. Warning, you can manually set the name only on the internal and that name is first-letter capital, all else lower case and sorted capitals before all l.c.

BTW, I use to have to maintain 2 lists (columns in a spreadsheet) for Dish and IMDb. IMDb earlier this year changed to non-library sort, i.e., a/an/the and some foreign articles are not moved to the end. This makes it closer to the Dish version except IMDb ignores case and many foreign titles retain that name, so I still have 2 column with the foreign title only used where needed. You did not really want to know all that, did you.

Sure wish they would sort by episode or original date after by name, optionally of course. -K
