Someone local is selling their VIP722 receiver on Craigs List. I would love a cost-effective way to upgrade my aging 508 receiver. Is there anything I should watch out for in buying this?

Ask for the receiver ID number, then call Dish and make sure the receiver is not a leased unit before you purchase it,and there is no outstanding balance left on it.;)

Plus make sure it works before purchase.

And hope the CSR gives you the correct answers. You'll pay the same each month, owned or leased. You might call Dish to upgrade your 508. They might be the better deal.

Yes, especially since you would need to upgrade to HD sat. Just say you are interested in going HD and would like a 722 or better, 722K

Thanks for the tip. Called Dish and qualified for Dishin it up. Fifteen bucks gets me an upgraded dish (Eastern Arc), a VIP722, and installation. I'm back enslaved with them for another two years of course, but since I've had Dish since late 1996, it would appear they meet my needs, more or less...

Now if the technician will only show up as promised...
