I knew Dish was increasing their prices earlier this month from reading this forum but when I received an email from dish today to say that my statement was ready it only said "some customers may see updates to their monthly bill". Why don't they actually say on your statement that we are raising your rates, again this year?

Some packages won't get the increase so their statement is valid.

Why doesn't Dish call it what it is a, PRICE INCREASE and not an UPDATE. On my actual bill there is no mention of any update or price increase. My bill has varied the last couple of months because of different charges and credits so unless I check each statement line by line I would probably not even realize there was a $2 increase unless I read this forum.

We've had two price increases this year. One was the outrageous equipment fees increase and now the programming. Granted, the programming fees increase is not that high but if you add them both they're kind of high.

I sure hope it's just a one time adjustment in fees policies because if they continue to do this every year, they will begin to lose customers.

I know price increases are a pain but where are people going to go? As long as Dish keeps their prices lower than everyone else what good is going to do to switch?

Oh so many options with the Internet. For locals OTA, for movies Netflix, and you can also get some other programming from Hulu,

My bill has gone up $16 this year. Top 250 went up by $2. My international channel went from $3 to $10 (ridiculous). And my second receiver went from $7 to $14. How a mere consolidation of the receiver fee and the tv2 fee equaled $14 is beyond me (7 + 5 = 12, not 14). Once my loyalty credit ends next month, I'll be over $100 for the first time. I'll probably have to rethink this as $100+ with no premiums is a lot of money for TV.

I think some folks actually saw a decrease. Some bills did not change. So yes, just calling it an increase would not be accurate. I think we've all seen from companies across the board that "price adjustment" or "update" and similar code words all usually mean the same thing: A price increase. So we can't really claim that this terminology is a surprise, can we?

I don't like the equipment increases, but it sorta makes sense. Higher quality, more expensive equipment with a higher capital investment by Dish. So we pay more than if we had cheap cableco DVRs. Our option is to reduce the number of receivers or service level, or move elsewhere.

I'm very happy with Dish, but if my company went under and I was out of work, I'd have to drop them and move to Fios. Or make do with OTA.

Except that Dish isn't always the cheaper of the 2 services. Add a bit of equipment and they easily become more expensive. I did some comparison shopping recently and with just 2 dual-tuner DVRs in the mix, D* was slightly cheaper.

I would agree, except that the 625 is hardly a more expensive box in comparison to any of the Vip series dual-tuner DVRs, yet the equipment cost is still the same.

dis b true

yep some people now have lower bills. In fact there's a thread talking about it.

Same thing with me ,
I keep reading how cheap they are but with the aep and two dvr's they are 5.00 higher than direct tv after both discounts are gone and direct includes the sports pack if you add that then its even more, i also had mrv added in direct
It would definitely be a better deal for me .
Just counting down my contract days.

Dish Network has chosen to punish their high revenue customers with multiple Duo receivers.

Why they want to lose those subs to Directv is beyond me.

But D* is now significantly less expensive in most cases. The switching threads are ever increasing and I completely understand why.

Some would argue that they are increasing the prices commensurate with the cost of the equipment they have provided. That may or may not be true.

However, I would argue that they have increased the prices on the higher end existing subs to artificially reduce the prices of new lower tier subs in an effort to increase the number of new customers. :(

You could be right. Fortunately for me, both services offer enough of the channels I want to watch that switching just isn't a big deal. Especially now that D* has the HR24 and MRV. At the end of my contract time, or at whatever point I think it will benefit me the most, I'll switch. But I won't be mad at either service when I switch, it is just business decisions after all, not personal.

There was a very small peice of paper included with my bill last week, talking about the new price increases. The last 2 increases lowered my bill by $5 each. $5 in Feb and $5 this month.
I have an initial release 622. So far, the combination of prayer, voodooism, exercisim and some roboots, has kept it running smoothly.:D

I had one of those and the HD died last week. Good luck!
