OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

Soooo what? Dish should just give in and put these chans in at120? As for those chaans being in the low tier cable, thats just wrong, at least in my market.
I dont have any issue whatsoever with charlie protecting both his margins and subs.
Could that be the reason dish rates were lower in general? Fox cant force dish to change its business model because its not in line with dtv. Its that simple....

Ya what he said.;):D

For my first post in this group, I will jump in here with a really dumb question; Does Direct TV have the same issues with stations that Dish has?

A year or so ago, Dish got into a urinating contest with Fisher Broadcasting, who owns a number of broadcast TV stations on the left coast. As a result of this, the local stations were not available on Dish. Inconvenient to us because we can still get them over the air but DVR was a thing of the past. For what seemed like 6 months, all we heard was how much Fisher was being unreasonable (from Dish) and how unreasonable Dish was being (From Fisher).

The end result was they settled, we never heard the details, and every thing was hunky dory.

This asks the question, why do these things seem to follow Dish around? Are there issues with Direct also and we just never hear about them?

DirecTV had an issue with OLN(Versus) awhile back.:welcome

Well with all these sports channels in the 9000s open in my guide, with HD Net Movies and HD Theater which channels am I supposed to be missing?.Fox who?.;):D

Yep, that is an issue. I didn't notice the RSNs being gone as I didn't watch them to begin with. FX was watched a very minimal amount of time and the other channels involved not at all.

As those channels are off Dish now, the real fear than Fox should consider is what happens if it turns out to be a relatively small minority misses them? Same for the Fox broadcast, although I get all my locals OTA if I want to, in HD and sub-channels that Dish doesn't carry.

Reduce my bill a bit and tell Fox to punt and I'm OK! :)

And as each contract comes up, this will more of an issue.

True, no content provider will be happy unless all their channels are in the base package with as much of a charge as possible. Dish has done well over the years with 3 tiers of basic programming. Now the content providers want this policy to end and all the channels forced on all customers.

Funny how outsiders want to ruin an otherwise well working business model. And even more amazing to me, the present "disputing" company is the averred "champion" of the free market? Perhaps I am a tad slow, but it sure seems like they like a "free market" if "they" can control it....

Dish won't have a business to model if it continues to cut off its nose to spite its face.

FOX knows those that want to see their shows can simply switch carriers. Why should they care about this issue with Dish? FOX carries all the leverage.

FoxSports, Fx, & NatGeo?
dont watch natgeo dont watch rsn's and im not going to miss fx terribly. From my point of view, it isn't about giving whiny contract subs what they want, it is about for me anyway, keeping the bills reasonable for what I want to see, and at this point I'm not out all that much and couldn't care less if they drop locals here as they were always just a bonus for me.

umm not all of it. Some of us see this as fox strongarm Bullsh!t, and will continue to do so. At the end of the day they both lose some, I'd much rather see charlie doing what he's doing than give in that easy.

FOX Update from DISH Network

I have received the following update from DISH Network regarding the FOX situation. (I will merge this into the main FOX thread in a day.)

We understand our customers value the ability to watch their programming, and are working hard to restore the channels FOX blacked out Oct. 1. Unfortunately, DISH Network has yet to receive a proposal from FOX that would equal anything but an overly excessive rate increase. And now FOX is threatening to block its local TV stations in many markets if we don’t submit to their demands for these sports channels. FOX also flatly refused our offer of an extension to keep the channels on the air while we continue to negotiate. The two sides are continuing to negotiate and we are hopeful we can reach a fair deal soon.

Also was sent this..

Texas A&M offering cut-rate tickets to Dish subscribers who can't watch Aggies - The Associated Press

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M is offering a deal to Dish subscribers caught in the middle of a corporate dispute.
Dish subscribers stopped receiving access to Fox Sports' 19 regional sports networks, FX and the National Geographic Channel on Oct. 1 when a multiyear deal expired and Dish Network Corp. refused to pay a rate increase for the programming.

That means Aggies fans would miss Saturday's home game against No. 21 Missouri.
Athletics director Bill Byrne says fans who prove they are Dish subscribers can buy half-price tickets. About 5,000 tickets remain for the game against the undefeated Tigers.

Nat Geo is one of my favorite channels. The reason I havent switched yet is because I dont want to give comcast all my money and att uverse is not available.

Up to you and what you want out of it really. I haven't and likely won't because it doesn't really affect me other than fx.
If you're into regional sports than you might look into it.
