Additional Information Regarding 3D Since this is our first offering of 3D programming content, we would like to provide additional important information
regarding 3D. Please see below.
• What is 3D and what makes it special? 3D allows HDTV viewing to come to life. This is achieved by adding length as a third dimension to the TV screen’s height and width dimensions. By adding depth to the viewing experience, some objects seem closer, and others seem further away.
• What is required to view 3D?
o ViP 922
o 3D programming content
o Compatible 3D HDTV, and applicable 3D glasses
o HDMI cable connection between the ViP 922 and a compatible 3D HDTV (the HDMI port and cable that comes
with the ViP 922 will support 3D viewing).

• Which 3D HDTVs are currently compatible with DISH Network equipment? As the number of model 3D HDTVs grows and becomes available in the marketplace, please continue to check DISH’s 3D webpage located at DISH Network's 3D Site FAQ for details on what 3D HDTVs are compatible with our different equipment.
• Are there any restrictions while viewing 3D content on DISH equipment?
o Picture-in-Picture (PIP) features are not available while viewing 3D content.
• How do customers order 3D movies from DISH Cinema? The ViP 922’s “DISH On Demand” menu will have a new area called “3D On Demand.” Customers can order 3D content through the DISH On Demand menu the same way they order other Video On Demand content. It will be clearly identified as 3D content.

Additionally, when a customer places the order for a 3D Video On Demand movie, their model ViP 922 receiver will check to make sure their TV is 3D compatible. If it is not compatible, the customer will see an error popup message explaining the issue.
• Where can customers find more information about 3D from DISH? Customers can continue to visit DISH Network's 3D Site FAQ for the latest information and news regarding 3D on DISH!
On DISH Network's 3D Site FAQ customers can find:
o Information on equipment required to view 3D HDTV
o A list of 3D Video On Demand movies available to view
o Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs)
o Technical support
o And more!

Got me all pumped up until I saw the price and the fact that it's only available on the 922!:mad:Any word on when/if 3D will show up for other VIP receivers? I have a 722 & 622. Strongly considering D* because of this. What do they charge for 3D PPV?
Thanks Scott!

Ed

If they forgot about everyone else then why does the Review integrate with 722/722/722K and not 922? Why did Dish bring out the Sling Adapter?

Wild guess on this one but it could be that Dish is "test marketing" 3D PPVs on the 922 first to see if it is worth the effort to develop the software on other receivers to display 3D programming. I don't think there are any hardware limitations that would state that their ViP receivers can't do 3D but they'd definitely have to do some software work. As pointed out they haven't forgotten the 722/722k receivers since they've released Sling Adapter and did the necessary software work to have the Revue integrate with the units.

$7.99, in their dreams!!!! ;)

Yea especally sence Directv is showing real movies in 3D for the same price of a HD PPV movie, as well as they have a full time 3d channel that shows tons of Free 3D & their free 3D on demand offering!

Comcast shows more 3D than what dish does! Dish's 3D offering isnt going to get me to switch anytime soon! LOL!

Dish's 3D offerings are compareable to the current lame duck session we have going on in congress! Nothings happening!

Why don't the 722's get 3D?

Damned good question. :confused:Overall, I'm very satisfied with Dish but gonna start seriously researching D*. Yeah, I know--3D's a gimmick but so was HD, stereo and color TV. ;) I've got the equipment and want to use it. I have no need to pay $200 and $4 more @ month for a 922 either. JMHO

Ed

I would settle for HD on several channels which Dish currently provides in SD only and full-time HD on the Regional Fox Sports Networks.

3D when they don't carry HD on so many channels? Oh yeah, it's VOD.

So let me get this straight...you drop probably $2000+ on a 3D HDTV with very limited programming available currently, $200 or so for each pair of 3D glasses, but Dish is ridiculous for wanting people to upgrade to a 922?

Take a deeeep breath and relax..3D channel will eventually be availbe..why should the majority subsidize the 2-3 hundred dish customers who want #D

3D is coming to other receivers as well.... its just that the 922 is the first one to get an update to do it. :)

But I do agree, I am not paying $7.99 for a bad movie. DISH Network's PPV prices are too high. If they lowered them I would order more movies, but when its $7.99 for one movie or $9.99 for a month of movies from Netflix guess which one I will choose. (And I am hearing 3D movies will soon be available for rent from Netflix anyways...)

DISH needs to learn that if they lowered their PPV pricing they would sell more, the increase in volume would make up for the loss in revenue.

Only time I use Dish's PPV is when I'm using one of the PPV certificates they've given me. I guess for some people it's worth the cost so they don't have to leave their house, use gas to drive, etc, etc, etc (that was always part of Time Warner's marketing for their PPVs, i.e. "order from your living room, avoid crowds"). I have multiple Redbox kiosks near me, a Blockbuster kiosk 200 yards from work (more being added, I presume), two Blockbuster stores barely more than 5 minutes away, and smaller video stores. Have to admit, I used to have three add'l Blockbusters nearby and the West Coast Video store 3 minutes away is going out of business...
