Any News on MLB Channel on Dish?

I got the figure from the last time I did some comparisons to see if I should switch or not. At that time, the total bill difference would have been right at $10 in favor of Dish.

That is not typical for most though

How much equipment do you need? I have 2 HDDVRs with Dish and the programs I find worthwhile in HD for them, all for less than it would cost to switch to any other service with something that was close but not complete.

It never fails to amaze me why somebody would spend their time writing in to say that they DON'T want a channel that other people want, especially when they have no concept what the channel is about. To say that there is baseball on ESPN is like saying you don't want HBO because there are movies on Starz. I don't like soccer, but I don't criticize other's desire to have Fox Soccer Channel. If you are afraid that you'll have to pay for MLB Network, those of us who want it would be happy to pay for it in a higher level package or as a premium. It just seems counter-productive to say you don't want a channel, because you don't like it or understand it. Others do.
Great observation... I think I can answer your query in part. In most cases, those who object to addition of a particualr network or service have their own services they's like to see added. This is particular true about HD locals. Many people mistakenly beleive that if a service is added, it sets their chances to see thier city's locals in HD farther to the back of the line. Some are anti-sports and want their niche channels to have a chance to be added to the channel line-up. Again, most specialty niche channel viewers are thinking satellite space taken up is less space available for their specialty channel desires. They ignore the concept of the bottom line. In other words, the niche channels don't offer providers an opportunity to make much money on those niche services.
It is what it is.. Heck, I'd like to have a 24 hr baseball channel. Why not? But I'd also like to have a channel that shows "how it's made " 24 hours a day. That's a cool show...

For those that find those extra cost sports packages worthwhile, you are spot on. But I would suspect that the majority of even D*'s subscribers don't have those packages.

But the issue in this forum is the MLB channel, which is not an "extra cost sports package" per se. It is a channel offered by most providers with the exception of Dish.

Dish should be able to find a way to provide this channel as most of the other providers do. Dish has the NFL, NBA and NHL channels and snubs the MLB channel because Charlie has decided his subs don't need it. Baseball is "America's pastime" and it is almost un-American not to provide the MLB channel, even if those that want it have to pay a premium for it.

Charlie should buck up and allow us subscribers to buy the programming we wish to see.

And he would probably want that to happen as well. MLB wants every subscriber to pay or nothing at all. That is why we are where we are.

Was unaware MLB wanted MLB Net to be set up like it was an RSN...
But them again, why treat the NFL RZ NHL Net NFL Net, NBA TV differently.
I guess MLB wanted too much per sub fo rthe channel..
I also believe the other condition was that the providers had to offer MLB EI in order to gain availablility to MLB TV...

Interesting article on MLB wanting to hit 70 million homes by the start of the 2011 season, which means Dish would have to pick up the network: MLB Network shoots for 70 million U.S. homes | Reuters

"MLB officials gave one-third of its network to satellite operator DirecTV and cable companies Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cox Communications to ensure broad distribution, a strategy Petitti called correct. However, that approach is not likely to be repeated." I find this interesting because I have never heard this side before - I always thought that the only way someone could carry the channel was to become a part owner of the network. Maybe there is hope that Dish will carry MLB Network next year.

Two words..."Not happening".
Has anyone noticed that when Charlie goes down the road of " my service is not carrying that channel( or network) it means Dish subs will never see it added?
Look, Because of Charlie's cat fight with the Yankees, he has essentially given up access to the NYC DMA.
Now with the fight he's in with Cablevision( MSG) and that service has disappeared from the guide, non Yankee fans that are fans of the Knicks, Rangers Devils, Islanders, Nets, Sabres and NYRA horse racing have all been alienated. I suspect any Dish subs that are left in NYC and Buffalo have bailed or will do so soon.
I guess it's more important to Charlie to be right, dig in his heels than take care of customers.
Remember Charlie's failed attempt to buy D*? Imagine the nonsense if that had gone thorugh. Every satellite customer in the two largest tv markets cut off from their local sports teams.
What a tool bag.

MLB network only plays highlights and is only one channel so they only play a random team every game day. Just get the games via the at bat 2011 that will come out next year. I am gonna watch them on TV via the PS3 app that comes out for every season. I hear it is very very good with PS3 and plus it is half the price that Directv charged me for extra innings last season (and probably still cheaper than what Dish would charge anyway). What I am trying to say is, there is more than one way to get your baseball fix. The sun doesn't rise and set on MLB network.

While I mostly agree with you, it would be nice to have a channel that was dedicated to big off-season events, like the winter meetings and all the hotstove stuff that has been going down over the last few days.

Yesterday, I had to watch ESPN for an hour just to see a ticker scroll with news on the Adrian Gonzalez trade, which is probably the biggest baseball news story this off-season. Obviously, during football season, generic sports channels just don't cut it for baseball junkies (although I guess there is the web...)

I would say Jayson Werth signing with the Nationals for the amount of money he signed for is a bigger story than the Gonzalez trade just because of the effects it could have on other free agents yet to sign.

It will only effect one free agent, Crawford and I don't think personally that Crawford will impact any team the way Gonzalez will impact the Red Sox - or baseball. I agree it is a story, but not bigger than the blockbuster trade of elite first baseman Gonzalez moving to the bandbox fenway park where he will probably be putting up .310/40/120 with a 1.000 OPS for most of this decade.

Werth's signing is more of a joke about the sad state of baseball free agent salaries. He is going to a team that can't win and everyone is going to forget about him until they decide to do a story about a 38 year old utility outfielder who is making $18 million a year...

Anyway, I'd love to have had the MLB network to keep tabs on both these stories, rather than madly refreshing mlbrumors for 8 straight hours. I think it would be a great addition to the Dish Network lineup as a baseball nut.

Agreed. The NHL channel does the same -- all the hockey news and near-news (rumors) are on this channel. Unless a trade is a major blockbuster, you are unlikely to find out about on ESPN, etc.

The MLB channel had more than "random" games -- during the pennant races last fall, they had several meaningful games broadcasted. The NHL channel does the same, with generally good quality games.

It isn't that Charlie prefers hockey, it's just that it was much cheaper than MLB...

god forbid that charlie should spend any money to give his customer what they want. and before you say that our prices would go up, well they go up all the time anyway . would be nice to pay for something that we want.

They had the MLB Extra Innings package and no one signed up for it so that they were losing money on it. If the customers really wanted it they would have signed up.
