I have a question regarding HD for life regarding accounts bundled with telephone accounts. A family member recently upgraded to HD after purchasing a new HDTV. When asking for the "HD for life" she was told that the offer doesn't apply to accounts that are bundled with phone service. So now the only HD channels are the locals and just a couple of other networks like LMN and HMC. All the other HD channels are not available without apparently paying the $10 monthly HD fee. What is the correct story on this? Does the HD for life offer only apply to customers who are directly billed from DISH network? Why doesn't the offer extend to existing customers that have their service bundled with their local phone company?

I have my Dish through Windstream. I have never called about "HD for Life" but my bill currently does not itemize the $10 for HD. However, my America's Top 250 did go up $10 back in June, so at this point I have no idea what will happen the next time Dish raises prices.

As to your question "Why" I think only Dish can give you a straight answer. Most responses here would be conjecture from people not working for Dish.

Do you have Platinum HD? That is $10...

I am told HDFFL is for non-bundled cust only. You can pay the one time $100 fee and get it. The logic behind this is (and many things) are not explained to me.

Also, a bundled account does not have access to on-demand content.

I have mine bundled with Windstream and I still have access to on-demand.

I just dumped my Dish Network account that was bundled with my AT&T bill. My contract was up so all the discounts I've been getting for the last year have expired. I had the 250 with HD and locals. I called AT&T to try and get any new promotions which I've done every two years in the past. They couldn't offer me any more discounts or promotions because they no longer sell Dish accounts. They use Direct TV or Uverse. The only benefit of billing through ATT was convenience. You need to cancel your account through ATT and set up a new account with Dish. That's what I just did and it was painless. They even gave me a new receiver and free HD for life. It's a no brainer. I also save $23 per month for a year. After the year I'll save the $10 because of the free HD.

Once upon a time Dish would pretend Dish service was being provided by the phone companies, i.e. AT&T, Sprint, etc. For several months now Dish clearly states that "billing only" is provided thru a third party. That is why you can now access your account info on the Dish site. Go to the Dish site and you can see all your info regarding your Dish service. DISH Satellite TV - $24.99 & HD Free For Life - Let's Watch TV

Yes, I have the HD Platinum for $10/mo listed on my bill. So, Top 250 w/HD and HD Platinum.

What that is telling me is that you have the HD For Life as a bundled customer. Top 250 w/HD is the For Life key. The $10 is definitely the Platinum.....
