I don't understand why the new DirecTV model of Tivo's would not have MRV. Currently DirecTV offers this on their DVRs. And Tivo offers their multi-room dvr sharing on their current boxes.

Maybe at the time of release it won't ,but maybe it will in the future.
I mean we really don't know anything about it.
Its all hear say,and no one has provided an ounce of facts, except some guy, heard this and wasn't impressed.
I STILL shake my head in amazement that people pay good money for a TiVo. I got an HR20-700 in 2007, sold my only TiVo a week later, and I've never looked back.
OK I see, so , I'm not sure then why is D* even bothering if it already sounds like nobody wants it.
Why go through all the trouble?

RVU who said no one wants it 3 major television manfacutres support it / motorola and SA support it / Verizon supports it.
Rvu is more then just pushign a UI via eithernet to a thinclient. part of rvu and the part that being used now is just the security layer that sit on top that protects the content.
Tivo uses there own content protection which is not very good . Last I heard they did not want to write new code base to add support in but might eventually get it if dtv decides to write rvu support in. But personally I dont think they will . Personally I think they will say hey you can have tivo or you can have dtv with mrv your choice .
Really an odd article. Brought forth the idea, then proceeded to "rain" all over it. Might not have been much choice, given the paucity of facts and seeming sad state of affairs.

Is there a bigger picture we aren't seeing?
Here is what tivo problem is.
1. They wanted to be the "leader" in DVR tech but they failed to innovate.
2. They got lawsuit happy.
3. They really just want someone to buy them up about now.
4. Bob Haller has a Tivo and that instantly kills off any stock.
Of course not, it is still a TiVo. You know the whole lip stick on a pig thing...
Again, I would like to see this product first, before I start making unresearched opinions about it.
MRV means nothing to me. I just assume have 4 HD dvrs and record the exact same show on all of them then Pay D*$3 extra per month.
Unless Directv starts raising the monthly fee of your HD DVRs the maybe MRV would be a good deal.
But I've never ran into a time where I had to finish watching a recording in my bedroom that I started in th living room.
If the show was that important to me, I'd DVR it to all my Receivers.
So just because somethings not MRV isn't a decideing factor for everyone.
Lets review the cost for an Existing customer to D* MRV, its in the Hundreds.
And D* isn't adding receivers for free just because you have an HD DVR on your account.
If D* puts a Premium tag on the Tivo, Sure it will have an instant death.
Remember the 922 that E* released, There was nothing but post after post on what a great machine it is, and I can't wait untill it comes out.
Then it came out with a $600 price tag,$400 lease price $10 DVR fee, and a Crappy Sling .com. and More bugs the the first HR20 back in winter of 2005 and Still only has 2 satellite tuners.

Scott seriously, What Directv receciver has ever been impressive.
HR24, yea well 6 years late to the party IMO.
Now that 98% of all the Existing D* HD DVR customers have been poisoned by 5 years of slow lackluster Recivers.
I know Dodger the HR-s are consumer reports machine of the year for the last 5 years.
Also, remember that the old HR250(?) came out as a to buy item (no leasing at the time) ... many wanted them, but they were $ 100 originally and took a LONG time to drop in price.
I almost bought one back then at $ 750, fortunately I didn't.

Power Supplys and Hardrives were the biggest problems with the Tivo's.
My Samsung Tivo works just as good as my R16.
The only plus about the R16, Interactive features like Game lounge,Local on the 8's and the ability to use only one tuner if needed.
But were talking about a 2002 Tivo , Vs my 2008 R16.
