I have a question (for my mom) about their home protection plan. They had a vip222k and a 322. They decided to drop 322. The problem is their bedroom wasn't tv2. So when they canceled they wanted a tech come out and move tv2 from the computer room to their bedroom. The tech said it was $15.00 for the tech and $50.00 for them to move the wire. Since they're loyal customers they'll wave the $15.00.

So after talking to me I just said I'll do it for free. Is that really the right charge even with having the Home protection plan?

The Protection Plan reduces the cost of a standard installation from $95 to only $15. Certain services that are outside of the standard installation are considered a custom work order (rearranging equipment to different rooms, "wall fish" to conceal wiring, moving the Dish antenna, etc). There is a $50 fee for custom work orders because of the additional labor involved. If you have any additional questions please let me know.

I just wanted to make sure it was right. I know every time you call Dish you get different answer. I just can't believe they wanted $50.00 just to remove a write and replace it with another wire. It took me 3 minutes to do it. I'm glad my Stepdad called me before he went ahead and paid it.

Thanks Raymond we got it fix. I went ahead and did it myself. Thanks for your help.

How much is your time worth? If you're working a 10 dollar an hour job, then minimum of 1 hour for any job, is 10 bucks. You would benefit if you have 10 jobs in a day that take you 5 minutes or less, and that you can do 3 or 4 in an hour.

But ... 50 because you have a site visit (gas to & from location), getting a tech on site that *if* there was a wire issue that the tech could take care of it... ie. you would expect the tech to inspect the wire, looking for any issues, and replacing while there if needed as PM (preventive maintenance) and that person could also check and correct the dish aim if its not peaked, etc..

Its almost always cheaper to do it yourself, *if* nothing goes wrong.
