DISH Hopper coming at CES ?

Will any of these tuners allow you to record to internal HD? Unless I can record to the internal HD, as good as it sounds, this set up is a no go here.

of course they would just like they can and do on a pc

Yup just remember a recording from OTA will take up a lot more space then coming off the satellite, as its MPEG2 instead of MPEG 4.

My original receivers had ota tuners built in. I did not upgrade till they came out with another receiver with ota built in. I will never upgrade unless ota recording is supported.

Can you let the people at Dish know our feelings about ota support?

Same here, I counted it up. I get 24 channels over the air, Two different PBS HD channels included. Over the sat I only get 4 in HD, 3 more in SD for a total of 7

That is 17 Local channels that the Hopper will **NOT** be be able to get until the OTA is supported. This is a show stopper for me.

I also can not live without ota support. My locals on dish are sd. I can't see why they would do this.

To whoever said something about the hopper having an internal HDD that is wrong. It has one 2Tb ext HDD for whole system Hoppers and Joey's alike.

I don't think this is correct. I'm pretty sure the 2TB hard disk drive is internal in the Hopper. The Joey does not have a hard disk drive as it shares the one in the Hopper.

This is correct one hard drive in the Hopper which is shared with the Joeys.

I'm not looking at a picture of the business end of the joey to see if it has usb at the moment.

This brings to mind another question, does hopper have e-sata or usb 3.0 ports for higher throughput to additional storage capacity?

There is a USB port on the Joey and back during Team Summit time, people here were speculating that OTA tuners and hard drives could be connected to a Joey and networked among all the boxes, but I don't think that was ever confirmed.

For sure there's an e-sata port on the back on the Hopper. Don't know if the USB ports on the Hopper are 2.0 or 3.0 but most likely they are only 2.0.

Just counted the number of ota channels I get that aren't carried by Dish. It's 27. That includes all the Syracuse NY channels that I can receive but are not in my MA on Dish which is Rochester NY. Without the ability to record from any of those, the Hopper is a no go. Dish seems to have dropped the ball.

Then you have an HD monitor, not TV.

DISH Network offered a couple of HDTVs that have an NTSC tuner but no ATSC capability.

Be careful how you classify things.

I find it funny how people feel the need to post on here how they will not get this receiver unless Dish meets their demands. It's not going to be perfect for everyone and if it doesn't suit your needs you are not required to get it. Wait until Dish does make a receiver with the features you want. Always so many negative posts from people.

You're a dealer so it's easy to understand why you don't like what you see as negative comments. On the other hand, the posters are right to point out why the hardware won't work for them. Dish is telling everyone this is the gadget everyone has to have. Some people are saying, no it isn't as presently configured based on the info available. I think it's useful feedback.

They were right to point it out once.. twice.. even three times.. seems like 50% of this thread is now ppl saying their life will end without OTA tuner. This has continued well past when Scott said Dish would (eventually) support it. Until then, no one is going to come in the middle of the night and remove the existing installation for those that have OTA and force them to use the new box.

They didn't drop the ball. You moved to the wrong neighborhood.

I wonder how many less pages would be in this thread if the original posts by Scott about the USB tuners had been read by all the people who are complaining about the lack of OTA tuners in the Hopper.

Maybe we should see how many people can post that the Hopper will work for them just to get some balance.
