I am getting divorced and don't want to pay $100/month for two people to watch tv (plus I don't need two 622's for two people). Here is my present bill:

America's Top 250
69.99
HD/SD (2TV) DVR Receiver
17.00
DVR Service
6.00
HD 250 Free ($10/Mo)
0.00

....................
Total
$ 92.99

I do have two HDTV's that I want to supply with DVR programming and one SD tv via a second tuner DVR. My thinking is to get rid of one of the 622's and go for a 211k with external hard drive. Would this lower my bill by $17/month? As I understand it my first DVR is free with the package and I am paying $17 for the second (?).

Also, I paid the external hard drive fee once for my 622's (as I understand it one no longer has to pay this fee for this receiver), will I have to pay it again for the 211k or should my previous payment count?

I know that I can also reduce the programming package but I must have NBC Sports and NHL network for the NHL season. I have the online center ice and it is a tremendously awesome deal (much better than purchasing through Dish) but they have two day blackouts on both of these channels....

If you switch to a 622 to a 211k, it will save you $10/month, but you will have to pay $40 again once for the EHD (they consider it different for the 211k than for the 622) Also, you could switch your package to dish america gold and save another $10/month and still keep NBC Sports and NHL network

Since you have Game center live and assuming you have a decent broadband connection (no less than 2mbit) you could get a proxy service like strongvpn and avoid any blackouts. Then no need for NHL network, NBCSP or your RSN.

Depending on your other programming needs, you could go as low as LatinoDos, don't let the name fool you, that pack has a healthy amount of american channels. It has many of the channels from AT200 at the AT120 price. Just a suggestion.

Get rid of all 622's and replace them with 211k's. External hard drives. Consider backfeeding the SD tv off one of the receivers. Good outdoor OTA antenna. Will save you a bunch in the long run, at least $16/month.

With regards to NHL Network and NBC Sports, give a really good thought as to whether you must have them. Latino Dos (a rather impressive slate of channels), as mentioned earlier, is $45 a month. At $25 a month savings, that'd pay for Gamecenter and Netflix, and then some! So it'd be worth while to at least think a bit harder on whether NHL Network and NBC Sports (Also ESPN, ESPN2, and most other Disney owned channels) are worth $25 a month extra. Latino Dos asks a bunch of the subscriber, but it also does pay out (in price and channel selection) well.

But this would include buying two EHD's for at least $160 total, and then $80 in activation fees. It'll take around 18 months to break even!

Probably best to wait for the Hopper.

It would only be $40 activation fee. It's one fee per account.

1 $40 fee per acct and that covers all the 211k on acct
edit: jimmer beat me to it :)

I already have five or six EHD's that I use with my 622's so the price of those won't matter. Can I watch programming that was transferred with a 622 to the EHD on a 211k with EHD?

Nope. The 622 uses the EHD differently than the 211k uses it. If you hook up an EHD that was previously on a 622 to a 211k it'll ask to format it before it uses it and vice versa.
