After 5+ years my 522 Hard Drive has died. (Received a message the I had a hard drive failure and to unplug my receiver for 10 sec and replug it in. Now I get a message that states it is unable to access this feature (DVR) at this time. Data not available. <024>)

Looking to see what my options are.

I have tried before to get a good deal on upgraded to a 722 for the same price as I pay now; however Dish has never been able to do this for a loyal existing customer.

I just went on the dish website to setup service as a new costumer and I am able to get exactly what I want...
Americas Top 120+, DVR Service, HD 120 Free = $50.99 + $1.09 Tax = $52.08 for 12 months.

Since I have had no luck in getting what I have wanted before from Dish I am assuming that the best method to fix this would be to cancel my service and sign up for a new service. However, I'm hoping this isn't my only option.

Thanks... Mo

That won't work, unless you have someone else sign up after you stop service. If you are insisting on a new customer package price I don't see that happening, plenty of posts about that so I won't dwell on it.
I don't see why you couldn't get a 722 however. Best possible choice is to contact a DIRT team member here. They have the best, most correct answer you will get.

To better assist you, could you please PM with your account number?

Thanks for the reply... Yes, that plan would be to have someone else sign up after stopping service. I'm curious about your comment on how I could just get a 722. I am doubting that they would just replace my 522 with a 722 for FREE to keep me as a customer. We'll see what the DIRT team has to say.

The hard drive in my 622 failed after around 6 years so I let Dish send me a replacement 622 which will suffice until the Hoppers are available. I’m guessing they would replace your 522 with a remanufactured 522. Why would you want to upgrade to a 722 when the Hoppers are soon to become available? If you’re going to upgrade, go for the latest and greatest.

That exactly why I say he may be able to get a 722. ;)

Another good point by Tampa8. @ekilgus - Why would I need a hopper if I only need two TV's? The only negative with the 722 is that I only get HD on one of the TVs... I still get to view what I recorded from both TV's. Sure would I like the hopper? Of Course, but at what added cost?

The 522 does not support HD. Are you saying you want a new, more powerful receiver for no upfront money AND no increased monthly bill?

Thought of this... I do have an extra 500GB seagate HD lying around. Do you just plug it in and it installs all the necessary software automaticly?
The replacement drive has to be a specific model like the one I listed. There are a few others you can use if you can find one. If you use a 250gb drive, it will turn your 522 into a 625. **Don't get a SATA drive.**

It is cheaper and easier just to have Dish swap out for a refurbished reciever. Join Dish Home Advantage (or whatever they call it now - $6/month) get a replacement, then cancel DHA and pay the $25 cancellation fee.
