While looking at channels from around the world and also North America at satbeams.com, I learned that sometimes you can't get most of the channels because of how they are encrypted in Ku-band and sometimes in C-band for example, channels like Cartoon Network East on Galaxy 3C aren't encrypted. I wanna know what's the difference about it. Do you pay for encryption or what?

Please reply...:)

You pay for encryption on Dish and Direct, that what you mean? I don't know if you have to pay for it on the other sats.

Well, I mean maybe what you said, and also Bell and Shaw... and I do learned I found 2 Canadian channels (YTV East & West) is unencrypted in Anik F1R of Ku-band..

There's like Nagravision, Videoguard, etc. I'm just confused if you need money to buy encryption probably from around the world and also the U.S.

OK, I see. But why would you need to buy encryption? Unless you were starting your own channel.

Well, it's a long story... I'm interested in buying a USB satellite tuner for my "lappy" which has Windows 7, then I went to SatBeams, and there were some channels that are unencrypted and then I learned that encryption has it's price... then I signed up to the site a month ago to get help... And one more thing, if I live in Arizona, do I get channels according to footprints or I can get channels around the world?

Yeah, only by footprints, meaning sats facing this side of the world. Lyngsat will show you what sats you can receive.

I got info of what sats I would receive at Geosatfinder.com (to check and see what sats I could receive, then get compass reading, dish elevation and LNBF rotation) and then satbeams.com (for the list of channels on the satellite). Would those sites help?

those are not unencrypted. They are scrambled
With most providers the only receiver they will authorize is their own
Dish, Directv, Bell, Shaw, Globecast will only authorize their own receiver

The only free channels on 107.3 is Knowledge, Shopping Channel, Access (now called CTV2 Alberta) and a couple radio stations

I don't think you can buy the codes for Nagravision. You must be a customer of a provider and pay them for a subscription. Fair warning, it almost sounds like you want to hack their system. That type of talk will get you banned here. I'm not saying that's what you are doing, just giving you a heads up.

I read elsewhere recently about where you have to enter codes that the programmer gives you into the receiver to activate it.

if your running a head end or news room you will be required to enter a code they give you and pay your sub. If i can recall associated press is 5K a month but those are turned on and off via sat with your subbed card.

that is powervu and BISS which yes you enter a code you are given from the provider or the uplinker....these are only for commercial setups.....and they monitor who can see the programming very tightly

Bottom line is if its a subscription you need then you have to get the receiver that the company is using....plain and simple

Hey, is there somewhere I can download Windows 7, and is there a code I can put in it to activate so I don't have to pay Microsoft? Not asking for a hack though. :D

Are you making fun of me or just being fancy 'cause that's just rude....
