Is there any reason that I would be having trouble using a SWM 8 setup with an HR20? I just put in the SWM8 today, I first transitioned an HR23 with no issues. Upon converting over the HR-20, my signal readings are crap & the DVR is slow to respond and just not working right. I used the same coax that was already in use with no issues before the swap. The HR23 is still just fine. I tried resetting twice. I am about to switch to a complete different coax run to see what that does for me (if anything).

Any input welcomed :) thanks.

Make sure you plug the coax into the SWM connection on the DVR and remove the BBC filters that may have been in place with the previous install.

BBC were removed, I think the HR20 was pre "SWM" terminology, it says Sat 1 in "FTM" or some such and then sat 2 in. I used the Sat 1 FTM, does this sound correct?

All HR20s are swm capable. The ftm port is the swm port.

I know the -700s and -200s hook up DECAs differently, but there shouldn't be any issues with swm.

I would agree however last year when I set up our new training house we had an HR20 that had killer signal on a standard kaku but once we put it on swm the signals tanked

Nope, only did it when we added swm. Sometimes it'll even drop random transponders. We kept it hooked up just for training reasons. We can put anything else there and it works flawlessly

Was it just that one HR20 or did you connect others with the same result?

Well mine is not playing nicely. Trying some variations and still the same result...showing a lot of ZEROs in the signal strength and giving error 771 cabling trouble and trouble communicating with dish....not giving up yet, but it dont be looking good :(

Have you tried a different port on the swm8? Have you tried calling Directv? If it's defective, they should swap it out with no commitment.

HA! They can have my HR20 when they pry it from my cold dead fingers!!! The only time I call them is to activate a receiver or to ask for billing discounts ;) I prefer to take care of my own setups....But yes, I swapped positons on the 8 way splitter, swapped coax runs entirely, new connectors, no luck. Now I have ran a line directly to the swm module outside to the SWM 2 port, it's showing some promise maybe, it's actually "receiving satellite info" when it wasnt before....we'll see & I'll post results....

I finally gave up for the time being. Went back to the SL3, for the HR20 anyway. Too many kids sleeping & DVRs recording stuff to do any more tonight anyway. I'll switch another DVR to the swm tomorrow & see how that goes....
Connecting directly to the SWM module netted better results, but still a hand full of zeros in the signal strengths & the error codes on some channels...Guess I have a picky HR20....

That's what the one did we have in our training house. It's crazy!

I used my HR20-700's for as long as I could, just recently changed everything over to HR24's.

What is your reasoning to hanging on to the HR20's ?

The OTA tuner was my reasoning, seeing D* wanted to upgrade and leave me with LESS than I had with the HR20, no OTA on the newer units and they wouldn't comp me a AM21.

Just curious.
