DISH -VS- VOOM - A Settlement has been reached!

I know OMGFAST uses MVDDS, which is why I was wondering if the sale to Dish will effect OMGFAST. I read an article a few months ago, which I just found again, that said Cablevision acquired the 45 licenses in 2004 for a whopping $84.6 million.

I would say yes. Don't know what # but http://www.bbpmag.com/ had a write up and picture's and it was only (1) rack with the ant's mounted on the roof that was the whole network.

Wireless is not a core competency for cablevision.

Almost smack in the middle, but I am not the one getting cocky over $300M My prediction [look back at my posts ;)] was that it would be no lower than $500M but would be around $1B.

How do you know Charlie didn't get down on his knobby knees, crawl to the Dolans and kiss their feet? We don't know everything contained in the settlement, do we? :D

Dish settled, so they didn't get away with anything. Winning would have been the way to get away with it. And who cares about Crying Carolyn Crawford? If it were the emmy winning performance I am willing to bet Charlie had hoped for, we'd all be talking about a mistrial. :p

She snapped because she didn't like the dressing down she got by the Judge, and I am sure she wasn't happy about having to give up her laptop either. Had to be an embarassing moment for her.

Do you know it wasn't a jury conflict?

Not that any of this matters anymore. Unless something unforeseen happens, its technically settled and we got AMC & TWD back. :popcorn

You seem to be of the logic, since we can't say for sure we know exactly everything had happened, therefore there cannot be any bets others made that matters, even though some of the posters here predicted far more close than you two had ever been able to, because of your 100% one-sided bias.

You two lost your bets and argument, if I were you I would have been more humbled, maybe doing so would allow me to be a better betting person next time. To have the balls to declare Charlie had to craw to AMC's feet, let me tell you, you are worthless if you are at the same poker table with him. Scratch that, everyone is worth something, but you two are only worth to be his shoe shine boys after he leaves the table and on his way to his next game.

Dish settled as I predicted they would, which in my opinion is the same as losing. My prediction was not LESS than $500M, but would be around $1B. I'd say I was spot on. Charlie didn't have the balls to take the stand and quitting was his only option.

I win, you lose. :D

Do you even have any concept of betting? A prediction of a settlement is like predicting we all going to die one day. All those litigations thrown against him, all had incredible odds of winning, but he managed to come out ahead most times. Settlement in his favor, against all odds, by definition is winning a bet.

Just look at the evidence you and your mentor buddy presented pages after pages, and the sanctions the court had already levied against Dish, if there is a role reversal, or if for example DirecTV was put in his position, they would have paid near full asking price before the judge even raised his voice. If you want to know why I say so, you need to go back to read some of those earlier patent cases in the Eastern Texas court, the ones predating the TiVo case.

And I say so as a DirecTV sub too:)

Come on guys, we (subs) ALL WIN so knock it off already!

Leave the "I know you are, but what am I" crap to Peewee Herman.

Actually I never said you subs all won:). A lot of these litigations were dragged on at the expense of the subs to some extent. You get the good, along with the ugly, in one package. I am happy for you of course, now you all can see dead people:)

Of course its back on now, after I just spent $43 the other day subscribing to season 3 of The Walking Dead on iTunes. Seriously, I'm pissed, I would have never paid for that if this mess hadn't happened. Someone owes me $43.
E,mail Apple and politely ask for a refund of the unaired episodes. They will say no. Politely ask again, and they will likely say yes, at least they did for me!

I'm getting the channels I was getting before.....yay?

Maybe one day I'll get ESPN News in HD again and I'll be back to where I was.

It was all about the spectrum. Voom got a nice pile of money but charlie got big chunk of wireless which covered the cost of the deal . Remember, he said sat tv in US is only 1 perecent/year and he was looking for greener pastures.

They are just going to sit on it like they have in the past with other licenses.

Look at the 6mhz unpaired of 700mhz they have been sitting on. Dumb move buying that piece of garbage.

Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge

It would be nice if Dish would keep track of those begging for credits, free Rokus, asking for their car payment to be made, etc over the AMC thing and since these AMC shows are so important to them, these subscribers can take the rate increase which is going to come from the addition of these 5 channels which many of us have no interest in. Never watched AMC, and I even sent Dish an email supporting it's disappearance for good. Too many worthless channels, and now WE and Fuse are coming back? Talk about garbage.

NO sh*t Sherlock.

But now the price we pay, will most assuredly reflect a higher amount for us all ,due to this settlement. DISH isn't going to simply absorb the higher cost associated with the higher price of carrying the AMC , WE , IFC, and Sundance channels. If you don't think it will , you really haven't been paying attention to the industry or DISH history. And that will be my final word on the subject to you KAB. I will not be pulled into one of your mental tirades, disguised as commentary. You simply are not worth all the trouble to debate it with you. :coffee

Completely agree. How can anyone try to argue that the price increase would be the same come February/March if these 5 channels were still off DISH or if there was this settlement and Dish had to take on 5 channel additions? I'm very surprised people are attacking you.

Dish said that they had the money saved for this lawsuit. Since they didn't pay anywhere near what Voom wanted, it shouldn't affect a price increase much, if at all. BUT, Dish hasn't raised prices on the base packages in two years. I foresee a larger than normal increase because of that fact and not because of this deal.

I'm not. There will always be DISH pom pom waivers ,that see anything potentially negative in their perception of DISH , cause their defense modes to kick on. Then they attack anyone that they see as being the messenger of that negative perception. I have history of the industry and of DISH price hikes in my corner & they have their " feelgood feelings" about DISH. I like DISH ,but I am not so blinded by them, that I can't see the writing on the wall about price hikes and the amount we will now all pay. Besides KAB is one of the biggest pains in the ass on this site. I have to periodically block him ,because he likes to fight. Life is too short to argue with people like that.

So you think that the settlement amount that they will pay won't influence the price of the price increase coming in February? What about the new terms for carriage of these 4 channels? That is going up too, and with it your increase. Let me remind you of the Tivo settlement. DISH had the money saved in an account for years making interest, while the DISH lawyers stalled for years before the Tivo lawsuit. After the settlement $$$ was finally paid to Tivo, our dvr fees increased from $4.99 to $6.00. Now we are paying $10.00 dvr fee with the rancid 922 and $10.00 with the hopper. Yes, they say with the hopper you are paying the $4.00 whole house fee + the $6.00 dvr fee, but it is still $10.00. My bet is that some of the costs associated with this settlement will be diffused, by spreading it out with an increase in the standard dvr fee, that everyone else pays. My guess is that you will see a standard $10.00 fee on ALL dvr accounts coming. IF not there will most likely be an increase of some fee or fees , to make up for the money they have spent on this settlement and increase for carrying the AMC and 3 other channels. DISH will not take a hit on their profits to pay for this Voom settlement. Even in bad years when DISH was bleeding subs , they still had increased profits. DISH's profits have increased just about every year ,even when they had to pay settlements.

A few weeks back people were discussing the upcoming rate increase. This is what I came up with for my package. AT200: $5 increase, BB@Home: $1-$2 increase, 722K dvr: $1-$2 increase. So I'm expecting a $7-$9 increase. Now for people with premiums and multiple dvr's, then they'll probably be paying a lot more. The only thing I can see really screwing us over (even more than a $7-$9 increase) would be charging a second outlet fee of $7 for my 722K since it has the TV2 out option.
