The WVU-OSU game is being shown on the local ABC station, so I guess that's why if the WVU-OSU game is also being shown on ESPN2 it would be blacked out. But why wouldn't they just show the PSU-Neb game on ESPN2 in my market (western PA) instead of having to move it to ESPN2Alt in crappy SD?

My guess is that, because there is one (maybe two) big satellite broadcasting ESPN2 directly to each individual home with Dish Network, they can't actually overlay the ESPN2 alternate feed over the default ESPN2 national feed for some markets and not others, and that the best they can do is put a block on the regular ESPN2 for people who are getting that game on ABC, and give you access to the ESPN2 alternate feed (with the game your market is supposed to get on ESPN2) on a different channel. The reason cable can just feed people an alternate game on the main channel is because there is usually a local hub for cable where they can do the overlay for everyone in that market, and don't have to worry about other markets, which have their own local hubs.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about the technical end of satellites, so I could be completely wrong in my explanation, or using the wrong terminology. This is just a guess based on what I've seen.

this isnt cable...they can put the alternate game on ESPN2 at the local level

Since satellite has one ESPN2 feed for the whole US that is why the alternate channel is used....

As for the crappy SD feed....blame dish. Directv has it in HD

I just tried it , not working says no data. Internet is working as I can do blockbuster streaming. Anyone else w issues.

Thank you for the escalations. We are currently working on getting this resolved. Until then, please use the Game Finder tool found on MyDish.com and continue to check the Game Finder App on the Hopper periodically as it will be resolved soon.

I wonder these same types of things with NBA League Pass. Tonight on NBA League Pass, channel 564 has the Pistons/Rockets game on, but only in SD. However, if I go to Fox Sports Detroit, I can see the game is being shown in HD (I have multi-sports pack). I don't understand why Dish won't re-map the HD feed of that game to 564 so the game can be seen in HD. I bet Dish is going to use the NBA feed of the game since they don't have CSN Houston, and I understand using just the SD NBA feed for the RSN when there are games such as the Knicks vs Nets, Trailblazers vs Sixers, or something like that where both teams RSN's aren't on Dish. But when there is a feed that is already in HD, why not just use that broadcast? Does the NBA dictate when an away vs a home feed can be used on League Pass? Just something I have wondered.
