Ok, so here's my question, and I will test it more myself later. When you setup a timer to prepare for mobile, does it prepare the show for mobile DURING the record or does it do it after recording? The testing I have seen with the Transfers app is that if I go to the show on the iPad, and select the show to transfer immediately after recording the show, it takes nearly the length of the show to "prepare" the show to transfer. Now, after it's prepared, it transfers fairly quick. I had thought it prepares the show during the record process. Anyone know?

If you prepare for mobile when creating the timer, it prepares it on the fly so when the recording is done it can be transferred right away.

So, I recorded a show, and I selected prepare for mobile. 6 mins after the show finished recording, went to the app and transferred it. It immediately jumped to 11% done preparing, but it isn't transferring yet.

Also, does the app need to be open the whole time or does it transfer in the background?

No, the app doesn't need to be open during the receiver transcoding. I would exit and re enter the app and refresh. If that doesn't work, you could force close the app via the multitasking bar or by rebooting the iPad.

The selected for mobile button is grayed out, there is only the % watched status bar, and nothing else that indicates its prepped for mobile or not.

Also I thought I read that if you transferred a recording from the hopper to the ipad, that it would no longer be avaliable on the hopper. Is this correct? The few I have transferred I have been able to watch on both, but I am only allowed to transfer the show one time.

Only DRM protected content. Basically HBO and Cinemax content.

Ok, so I unplugged the hopper, recorded the news from 10-1030 on a timer that was set to prepare for mobile, at 1108 its at 80% prepared.

Did I get a bad box or should I try to factory reset it?

No it finishes, but its not prepping the show on the fly. It's recording the show, then it preps it. So for a two hour movie, from start to finish it will take nearly 4 hours to be ready to transfer.

I did it on the fly the other day or so I thought. After my movie was done recording, I had it transferred and on my iPad in 14 minutes. I'm going to test this again right now and see if I have the same issue.

Timer set and I chose prep for mobile. The show starts in half an hour so ill let you know what happens.

So I guess was wrong. The first time I did this I guess the event was most done prepping when the recording stopped.

My new recording just ended. I opened the transfer app and the event is 48 percent prepared. In the last 5 minutes it has jumped to 65 percent. I'll keep an eye on it. The transfer portion should go extremely quick.

Yeah, the actual transfer does go over quickly, it's just the preparing portion. I was under the impression that it did it on the fly while it recorded if you told it to, but it seems that it will record it first, and they do the preparation after the show is recorded.

It's preparing during the recording process but I think the ratio may be 2:1. I used my iPad and tried to transfer the event immediately after it was done recording and it was 48 percent completed. It took about 10 minutes to finish prepping and then the transfer happened in about 8 min.
