While I was in another thread I was thinking. Unlike the older receivers, Hopper hasn't had the ability to change the nightly update time since its introduction in March. I remember seeing people post here and there about wanting to change the time, so I was wondering, just how many of you would like to see this feature reimplemented?

As for my vote: I voted yes because it can be irritating when the 1am reboot sneaks in while I'm in the bathroom or something. If you say no, it will ask every hour if you want to, and only gives you 1 minute to choose before it reboots automatically. Even worse is when you have EHDs connected, it can take 45+ minutes to reboot while it checks the filesystem on the EHDs.

Do you have a poll setup for this? I would vote yes, but I am using the new android app and I don't see a poll.

Yah it's a poll. Not sure about Android, but on the SatGuys (and Forum Runner) App you can log in on the desktop web version by tapping the thread title then the poll should be visible.

I voted yes even though I don't have a Hopper. Why take away an option that was available on the previous product line, and customer choice and flexibility is always better than none.

It think it uses the same UI as the 922 and I believe the 922 was also updating at 1am. I think it was probably just left as it was. I don't have a 922 anymore but maybe someone who has one can confirm the update time.

+++++++++++1

UH! It drives me crazy and causes mom to PANIC!!!! I have to explain that I CAN'T set the time for update. She does NOT like this one thing about the Hopper. You've detailed my exact experience 3HaloODST when I watch, and the buffer is DUMPED. There goes that movie or show. FIX THIS DISH!

I would bet Dish has seen this thread and all the feedback from people who want the update time to be customizable and legit reasons it should be changed. Hopefully a change is coming, I guess time will tell.

Scott seemed to indicate a while back that this would be rather complicated to get resolved. IIRC, he was optimistic that it could get fixed in the long run though.

I know a lot of people complain about the guide font size and that would be a complicated change due to basically needing to change the entire UI. The update time shouldn't be nearly as big of an undertaking and I bet it ends up being customizable eventually, hopefully sooner than later. This isn't as big of an issue for me as others since I don't stay up that late normally, but it can be annoying if I miss the update message when I've stepped out of the room.

May I respectfully suggest that the options for update not be on the hour but rather 15 minutes past the hour, for obvious reasons.

Yep. Set for 5 mins past or whatever and 15 past is insurance. Less likely to interfere with recording.

And you still get the update.

Would be far better than what we've got now!

I don't get why the updates are not sent to a free tuner then applied at a certain user specified time.

1am is not a good time.
