what are the pro and cons of the 722k vs 211k reciever ? is their any extra fees are associated with it .im thinking about getting hd finally. i currently have the welcome pack and a 322 reciever

The ViP722 series can feed two TVs independently- one HDTV and one SDTV. How many TVs and of what type will you use? Perhaps you could drop the 322 with a ViP722 series. But this path costs more each month than the 322 or ViP211, both in receiver fees and the DVR fee. EHDs from this receiver can be played by the Hopper.

The ViP211 series can be made into a DVR for a one time $40 charge and the purchase of an EHD. It feeds one TV, but you could hook up two, so long as both watch the same program at the same time. And this receiver, if owned, can be used with the Hopper system if you might go that route some day. But EHDs from this receiver cannot be played by the Hopper.

Sorry I don't have the exact dollars. Dish does not make this easy, finding a complete price list. It's there, just takes some hunting. Someone else will come along with that information, I'm sure.

Good summary navychop. The only thing I would add,is if the 722 is the only receiver on the account then there wouldn't be any additional receiver fees. The dvr fee is $7 per month. The nice thing about the 722 is it's dual tuner,vs one single tuner for the 211.

Yep, I should have added that.

But I can't find a fee list at dish.com/mydish.com. Be nice to see a chart like was sent to retailers that had fees for each model, DVR fee, whole home fee, protection plan fee, etc.

Also the Sling Adapter works on the 722, and doesn't on the 211, if that's important to you.

Primary receiver is free, dual, single tuner or Hopper
Secondary single tuner non DVR $7
Secondary single tuner DVR $10
Secondary dual tuner non DVR $14
Secondary dual tuner DVR $17
Secondary Hopper $12
Joey $7
DVR fee $7
Hopper Whole Home DVR fee $12
Service Plan $7
Convert 211 into a DVR $40 one time fee (requires purchased EHD)

I think that covers the majority of extra fess one could have.

Thank you. I still think it should be easy and obvious to find, if not prominent on the Dish site.

Try remembering all these fees and rules. It can get real confusing. I just printed out the newest business rules and it's over 100 pages.

If you decide to go with a 211 and convert it into a DVR, remember to amortize the cost of the hardrive. On one of my 211s I am still using the original drive I purchased. On my other 211 I am on my third hard drive. One drive was replaced under warranty the other replacement I had to buy at retail so over thirty six months I spent $85 on drives for one receiver and $170 for the second.

If your a current dish customer check out the VIP922 w/slingloaded. You can use the Dish Anywhere app with it.

You'll find that not many people here recommend the 922 since they had many issues with bugs. I myself liked it but most do not see the $10 DVR fee worth it.

Does anyone know if Dish still installs 722k's if the customer wants it?

Yes...

But the 622/722/722k are the same family so actually getting a specific model can vary. Depends on what the installer has on van. I haven't installed a 622 in a long time, and right now I have been getting 722's from ware house.

VERY simple to ensure you get a ViP722K. Before the installer does a thing, insist on seeing the box/receiver. If it's not what you want, and you told the CSR what you insisted upon, cancel the install right there, before he even enters the house.

It's your money. Same family to Dish, bad/good/better to most of us. Different HDD sizes, chipsets, OTA tuners.

I'd still give another look at the Hopper. I hardly miss my ViP722s.

Just FYI, purchase price on a 211 is $149 normally. $399-$499 for a 722 is what I've heard.

I suggest the Hopper just because I like it and it really is the best one, but it does intrinsically come with more costs. The advantage of three tuners often comes in handy though.
