Hi all,
I'm moving to a new house and need some feedback. I currently use a standard HD LNB with a mulitswitch for conversion to SWM. Many many years ago, an DTV installer told me that was the way to go, because the SWM LNB's had issues in extreme temperatures... specifically cold weather. I've never had an issue with my current setup.

Should I now go with a SWM LNB or stick to the multiswitch? I have no legacy tuners or have the need for OTA (have a separate run for OTA). I like the idea if everything being built into the SWM, but I really want to make the correct decision. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks,
Dan

Understood... but I need to buy new equipment. The current equipment is going to stay for my future tenants. Not sure what is best to buy.

Not sure what you are trying to do. If you move to another house, the only way your tenants can use DirecTV is to set up their own account, you can't use equipment on a single account in two places. And if they do that, your current equipment probably won't be usable, because it is leased to you.
What I would suggest is that you use the mover's connection to get set up in your new house. If you have a decent record with DirecTV, they will install a new dish and also give you upgraded equipment (possibly a Genie) free of charge. They will leave the existing dish, your tenant will need to set up a new account with DirecTV and then get new equipment.

I'm coming from an MDU account. I own all the equipment... including the dish. They wouldn't install a dish at my current residence so I had to do the work myself. The easiest thing for me to do is just install new dish and move my receivers. It's that simple.
I mention the tenants since they would have no work to do. DTV would install the receivers on their new account since I have everything wired up.

I second this, no idea what the guy was talking about saying there were issues with the lnb in cold weather. I install around 6 a day 6days a week, never once seen or heard of that.

A couple of years ago there was a batch of SWM LNBs that failed in cold weather. But they were replaced a long time ago, and there have been no recent issues.
