A few weeks ago, Connecticut COX subscribers got an email from COX stating their Internet Speeds would soon be tripled.

I was on the 50 Mbps service.

This morning I ran Speedtest and here are my new speeds.

The new speeds are also listed on the COX website.

Thanks Cox! :)

Mine has increased, but no where near tripled. I went from 20-25 to 30 or so. My upload speeds have increased from 5-6 to around 25.

Chip, do you have a newer DOCSIS modem?

Check http://192.168.100.1 and see if your modem is bonding to 8 channels or 4. If only 4 you might want to upgrade. :)
If you look back at the email, it says, "Speeds UP TO 3X FASTER." That doesn't mean we're all getting triple speeds. Looks like you Scott (and all other Ultimate subscribers) are the only ones with a bump up like that. Mine went up from 18 to 25. Attached is the new speeds from Cox's Website. Chip if you're not getting the proper speeds just call Cox and sort it out with them. It may be that you need the newer modems.

All I know is that if I get some money coming in I'm going to upgrade to the Ultimate. Being able to download at speeds over 15 MegaBYTES a second is damn appealing.

I don't want that pricing. Currently I'm paying 54.99 for Preferred 25/5 in Las Vegas and 54.99 for Preferred 12/2 in Tulsa. I guess I can hope it doesn't go up but Las Vegas is listing the 62.99 pricing for Preferred now.

I just looked at the fine print of the email and it says:

A DOCSIS 3 modem is required to consistently receive optimal speeds for Preferred and higher tiers, and is strongly recommended for all other tiers.

Make sure to get a DOCSIS 3 modem that supports 8 bonded Channels. The old Docsis modems only do 4, for a max of about 75 Meg under the best conditions.

I got a new DOCSIS 3.0 modem. This is what I get on that page Scott.

Edit: I got the Motorola SB6121. Apparently it only does 4 pair down. The SB6141 does 8. Is there that much difference real world?

Im guessing that the internet plan scott and some others have is not the basic plan with those high speeds.I have Comcast with basic speed which is giving me 50 plus.Getting the 8 channel modem for me right now would be a waste of money due to the fact im maxing out now with the plan I have.

I get 25 MB (really only 21 MB - they claim due to overhead nobody can get 25 MB and I call bull on that) but only pay $55 on Frontier bonded connection. They said that there are bonded four connection devices out there but I am not sure what their bonding supports or maybe they just don't offer it yet. I get 2 MB upload. That is plenty of speed for what I do. I don't see why most people out there need more than 25 MB, some even 10 MB unless you have multiple users on it at once or do a lot of downloads. 150 MB is an insane speed.

I wonder if they see competition coming in as to why they increased the speeds so much. I am also curious if Suddenlink plans on doing the same thing since I use that service most of the time when I am away from home. They are going digital on everything and should have more bandwidth to bond some more channels. They started offering 105 MB download a few years ago claiming it was the fastest speed in the U.S. although I am sure it aint the fastest speed now.

Yes, the max you will get out of that modem (while rated to 171 Mbps) is somewhere around 60 Mbps. You would only see higher if your line was perfect and you were 10 feet away from the node.

The 8 paired channels work better together and allow more speed. Plus the other 4 channels are not as crowded as the first 4 so you shouldn't see slowdowns at night. :D

Looks like my speed increase has kicked in. I'm now getting a steady 3+ MBps connection, whereas before it would be around 2.2.

I've got Preferred here in CT and I just got my latest bill with the new $62.99 pricing....

I figure its going up, the bill for Las Vegas should be here anytime and I got the email last week that they would be increasing speeds in Tulsa in a few weeks, so I imagine it will go up too.

Thankfully with Dish and Sling, I don't need 2 tv accounts, can use sling on short trips and take receiver with me and change service address when we are out there more than a week.
