The Walking Dead on AMC

Who was surprised to see NO ONE tending to the garden or crops other than Rick ?

Yep,I was.Would have thought several of them would be in the garden.

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one that was underwhelmed with last nights episode.Figured there would be some here saying it was great,so far not the case.

So what happened to the original show producers?Maybe they need to hire Vince Gilligan.

While I didnt think it was great, I did think it was better than a good bulk of last season. I am glad that they seem to be, at least somewhat, shifting back to the walkers as a real danger.

The trailers made it seem like there was a saboteur in the midst of the survivors. If they do go in that direction,I already have my suspect in mind.

Nathan Fillion was asked if he thought there were survivors who still sympathized with The Governor housed in the prison. He said, "No" but I'm positive The Governor has a fair number of spies, minions and loyalists living within the prison walls and fences. We shall see.

Also, what about the Superwalkers we've heard rumors of over the summer?

As long as we don't end up with Walking Dead meets Resident Evil, although I wish they'd give more information about the mysterious helicopter that always seems to be flying around, apart from the one that crashed last season that the governor got to.

And there is where I disagree. Zombies are always a danger...a given like H2O. The drama and STORY of last season was the tried and true of the struggle of man vs man amidst the zombies...they were just the backdrop. I don't think it will survive as a zombie war only. IMO, season three was the penultimate effort thus far. And granted, hard to beat.

The zombies were an afterthought last season. Imo that's what made, to me, it subpar season in comparison to the first two.

It's a show about a zombie apocalypse. When you make it mostly about Joe vs Jim, I don't see the reason to watch it over any other show on TV.

'The Walking Dead' season 4 premiere ratings enormous

Full Story

Another The Walking Dead premiere.

Another all-time record.

Sunday’s zombie drama return delivered a huge 16.1 million viewers and an even-more-stunning 8.2 rating among adults 18-49. That’s up 30 percent in the demo from the show’s previous high (the season 3 finale).

The Walking Dead also once again has crushed the broadcast networks: This is the largest telecast of the fall in the adult demo, beating all entertainment shows. In fact, if you combine all the broadcast dramas that aired Sunday night — Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Betrayal, The Good Wife and The Mentalist — they still don’t match The Walking Dead‘s demo rating.

AMC claims the hour also has topped all sports telecasts this fall. That would be a rather enormous accomplishment (last fall The Walking Dead “only” beat all entertainment shows, not including sports). And that claim certainly appears to be accurate, at least if you define “fall” as the official start of the broadcast season in late September — some broadcast pre-season NFL games were higher than an 8.2. Also, we’re told last night’s Cowboys vs. Redskins telecast on NBC could possibly top The Walking Dead when its final national ratings are released tomorrow. Still, the very fact a cable network series is even in close contention for this claim is pretty incredible, as well as the show continuing to beat all the other entertainment programs.

Yikes! Those are some impressive numbers for a less-than-stellar premiere. Still, this show needs to deliver the goods and Season 3 was not nearly as good as Seasons 1 and 2 IMO. Oh, did anyone notice Scott Gimple said "Yes" to Nathan Fillion's request to bring back Merle? I can only assume that Merle (Michael Rooker) will be brought back as one of Daryl's dreams/delusions and he will be asking a pretty penny in salary.

If you look at it that simply, show is over. Zombies win if only by sheer numbers.

I get your point msmith, but I agree with Kab.The characters to me,are what drives the show, not the zombies, they do indeed add a fearful element, and are never too far from the main plot.imo,it's always been about a group of dysfunctional people trying to survive during a zombie apocalypse. The zombies can only take the show so far.

The trip Rick made to the woman's camp still has me scratching my head.People that watch the show already know just how crazy a person can be in a setting like that. Not sure what kind of profound meaning they were trying to achieve there.

Indeed that is almost astronomical ratings for a cable series, but there is no way it topped the SNF game.

I will say this, there was huge social buzz for days leading up to the premiere. There were some people posting about it on facebook, that I was surprised would be watching a show of this genre.

Let's just hope the writing improves in the coming weeks,or TWD will be dropping in the ratings fast.

Do you think the third season was better than the first two?

You may, and that's fine.

To me what made it the worst is the focus away from the zombie side as the main threat.

Sure, you need more than that. It's gotten this bad, numbers are against you as you said. That can't be it itself.

But if you Make it just about survival among humans against humans there is no real need to make it about zombies in the first place.

Make it a nuclear fallout scenario or make it Revolutions.

If they continue to ignore, or severely downplay the main threat in the show I don't think it will continue to be as popular.

May be wrong. Ratings are surely strong.

I dare say most of the "buzzers" were as disappointed as most of us. Ratings will probably just marginally sink next week...after that...like you said, the writers...but also Mr. Gimple who does NOT impress me. He was AMC's call!

Yes, I did. Was ready to give it up beforehand.

Interesting. Honestly you are the first person that I know that has said that. I am sure there are others that agree with you.

Seasons 2 and 3 had some great moments, but both season also dragged at the Farm and Prison respectively. Overall, I would give the nod to Season 2 as being better because of Shane and Dale. However, Season 1 put both of them to shame IMO.

But that's the whole point with zombies. Living humans simply can't win in a case such as this, as the zombies never, ever quit.

Since they stated from the outset that "We are ALL infected", the eventual outcome of total world-wide zombie overun is simply a matter of time... There is no hope, there is only "how long can I hold that outcome off for ME?"
