DISH Reaches Long Term Agreement with DISNEY / ESPN / ABC

If you say so. I know that with TWC, when I had the super basic package that did not included ESPN, when I tried to access ESPN3 I was denied because I did not have a subscription.
Do you personally know anyone with the super basic that DOES NOT included ESPN who was able to add ESPN3?

I seem to remember TWC not allowing espn3 access without a tv sub, but I have Cox for internet and Dish for tv at home and get espn 3 access through my Cox login, I have Windstream internet and OTA only at my lake house and get espn 3 through my Windstream login. Espn 3 access alone is primarily granted through ones internet service provider.

BS BS BS you only need a Comcast Login for ESPN cable channels ESPN3 is available for free on Comcast Internet

But, if you are trying to access ESPN3 on a ROKU, you need an ESPN sub with a Comcast login.... Likewise, you can't access ESPN3 on an iPad because you still need that same sub and login.

Maybe on your computer, but it doesn't work on other devices. I have Comcast internet only. I can see ESPN3 on my mac but I can't get into WatchESPN, which is where ESPN3 is, on other devices because it wants your Comcast login just to get there and it won't let you login at all because you don't sub to Comcast TV and have ESPN in your sub....

Strange

I think I figured it out>>Its when you watch ESPN 3 per this quote from wikipedia..some programming that is "duplicated" is blocked out at certain times

ESPN3 began in 2005 as ESPN360.com, as a mostly on-demand video website. In September 2007, ESPN360.com shifted away from on-demand content like studio shows and moved toward placing "emphasis on live events".[1][2] On April 4, 2010 ESPN360.com re-launched as ESPN3.com. On August 31, 2011, the network became simply known as ESPN3, and was incorporated into the WatchESPN platform, which also carries simulcasts of ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Classic, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater.[3] The following year, programming from ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU in evenings, or from noon local time onward on weekends, can no longer be seen live on ESPN3 without access to WatchESPN.

The WatchESPN app will show 2 versions of the game if it's on both a ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU and on ESPN 3, just set your filter in the app to only show ESPN3 games. I've had no problems watching ESPN3 content on my Roku, Android, XBox One or PC.

as we enter the final days of 2013, makes me wonder if the Disney/ESPN channels will go dark on Dish on January 1st. i hope not, but i have a feeling they will go dark at the start of the new year.

I actually feel the opposite. Dish talked about the upcoming price increase being a result of programming being more more costly. I'm hoping that they made a deal with Disney and now they needed to raise rates to recoup some money from the deal.

Yea,no way Dish would get away with $5 package increases, and pull the Disney/Espn channels.Talk about a mass exodus.

I wish you were correct, but seeing that they have had no contract for over three months, I'd expect a new agreement to be announced immediately. At this point I have to assume that no news = no new contract.

I agree with this which is why the large $5 increase and the Hopper fees seem pretty ridiculous on the face. I can't imagine all the provider contracts would have such high escalators to cause a $5 per month increase.

Would be a nice start to the year for the other Disney channels to light up in HD. While I think it's coming I don't think it will happen early 2014 (January) but hey what do I know!

I have a feeling that the Disney/Espn channels will all get lit up in HD,around the time of the price hike. That way Dish can say, look we now offer these channels in HD.
