Problem With Hooking Up My Receiver To My Computer Monitor

ok all, let me start off by saying my monitor is a full HD 1080P flat screen t.v. When the tech was out here 3 weeks ago to upgrade to a hopper he offered to hook it up to my monitor and I said no, now I am kicking myself. So I go out and buy a 25ft RGB to D-Sub cable, connect if from my receiver to my monitor and I get picture, but no sound. I shut down my P.C. made sure the speakers are connected to the t.v. still no sound. Ok ol wise and knowledgeable people, what am I missing? please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

RGB stands for Red, Green, Blue. No where in that is audio. If your using RGB you have to carry the audio over in some other way.
Why not use the HDMI connection?
Your computer has nothing to do with this if your Hopper is hooked to the monitor.

Either use HDMI (if your monitor has it) or carry audio into the monitor via RCA or via a toslink cable. (there's bluetooth out of the Hopper, but that way out of scope).

The audio may need one of two types of wiring, either rca connectors (red and white, there may be yellow but that is for video) or rca to stereo jack depending on the inputs of your tv.
