Canada
okay so i paid about 100$ for a ts360 off ebay, and it has no access card...
i want to make sure that when it arrives, i can set it from satellite, to no satellite, and from what i understand, i wont be able to do that without an access card

amazon.com has some, but wont ship to me because i am canadian

directv wont let me call them from canada

amazon.ca has none

ebay has some included with units, but im not looking to spend another 50+ dollars.

i only need the card for 20 seconds (if i need it)

so what i am hoping is that somebody here would be kind enough to sell me an access card, and i will even return it when im done with it, so its a win win for you and me. :)

please, somebody help out this desperate videophile.
all i want to do is watch some OTA on my big tv (has no tuner) and upscale my retro games :( :( :(

please please please help me!!!! and sorry for begging lol

:welcome to Satelliteguys JohnnyBlack!

The Samsung may work for ota without a card, but it is an analog tuner. Are the ota stations in Canada still analog or did they go digital? An access card must be married to the receiver/dvr, so getting one from anyone other than Directv isn't going to work.

thanks for the welcome

they are digital :(

i know i need a directv access card, but like i said in first post, its almost impossible for me to get one shipped to canada.
thats why i am here, i already came here before doing research on the unit before i bought it

i am sure somebody here has one that they used to switch to no satellite, and its just sitting in their unit or somewhere in their house, not being used

if someone would help me, i would be forever grateful, and you get a couple bucks too!

if you are saying i need one from Directv themselves, and not a used one, i can find posts of people who used a friends card, or bought one from ebay and it worked to let them make the changes. So i hate to argue, but i think this is untrue.

www . highdefforum . com / 99215-post13.html

please read. it tells him wrong card, but he is actually able to get into the menu now

another guy here ---> 107934-post16.html

So let's say the card gets you into the menu. What good will that do you if all of the stations are digital? The 360 has an analog tuner.

the main reason i wanted it is for the upscaling of retro consoles, tv is not that big of a deal to me to be honest

i honestly dont mind if i get a card, and dont even need it, i would rather just be able to use the thing when it arrives than have to wait around even longer to get an access card to get into the menu

i know people use the sir-ts360 for the sole purpose of upscaling, they have no tv/satellite/antenna connected at all.

from what i understand, its a 50/50 chance, it might let me set no satellite, no problem, or it will not let me into the menus without an access card inside. depends on who you ask

A half way decent avr will do a better job of upscaling.

i see the only help i will be getting is this guy telling me basically im sh*t outta luck
not trying to be rude, but this is getting a little frustrating here.

all i want, is an access card, so i can get into the menus without any hassle and use the thing i paid 109$ for which is alot when you have an average job, live on your own, with no outside help.

but, it looks like im going to have to buy another unit, which will end up costing close to another 100 or so

for the 200 this is costing me, i could have bought a very good upscaler to begin with. so yeah maybe recommend some more things that cost more money, cause im obviously a rich man

im sorry i am getting a little angry here, but it is not the help i wanted.
i know its not the best upscaler, but its better than what i am using. i only bought the thing so i can play nes, sega, atari, on my hdtv without it looking like garbage.

the thing is paid for and will be in my hands in probably less than a week. i just want to make sure it works the way it should. (menu-->no sat-->done)

Perhaps you should wait and see if it will operate without a card. I doubt anyone is going to send you a card they need for their own setup and not many people have extra ones lying around.

I don't even have a 360 anymore I trashed it years ago, it wasn't worth anything. Even if you need an access card to get into the menu I don't think you can use it. You are right it did have an ATSC tuner.

You are right boba, it does have an ATSC tuner, so it will receive digital ota signals. Hopefully it will work without a card for ota. I know you don't have to have a Directv subscription for it to work, but I'm not sure about the card issue.

I don't know either, I had a card in mine and it was married to that receiver but I had other OTA tuners that worked better. For upscaling I have no idea how he plans on doing it, memory says OTA analog and digital were the only thing it would process.

you can input standard def signals, and output in hd, and from what ive seen, it looks pretty damn good

you plug in for example, an nes, with its composite inputs, switch to that video source on the reciever, and bam, nes in 720p, looking the same way it did on your sdtv.

im not trying to make anything look better than the original, just the way it should

and i doubt this thing is older than my hdtv. it was made in 2005. it only does 720p, but it looks great (talking about my tv), so just because its old, doesnt mean it wont look good. people hold the ts360 in high regards when it comes to an affordable upscaler that doesnt look like poop

It does 1080i. It can't take an sd signal and make it into hd. It can make it look better though.

are you intentionally trolling me?

it will take your input, and output to 1080i,720p,480p/i

please if you dont have an access card, or any helpful advice (the only helpful post was the one that said i can get digital signals) than all your doing is wasting both of our time.

not trying to be a dick, but lets look at the topic title.

I stand corrected.
The Directv ts360 isn't as old as I originally thought, however I think it is one of the last models used before the D* branded recvrs took over.

Fwiw, I have a few cards sitting around from MANY years ago, do you need the CORRECT Generation to make it work ?
Old recvrs in closet.

Trolling you? Really? I'm trying to inform you. You said the 360 will only go to 720p, but it will output 1080i. That doesn't mean that the 1080i signal is real hd though.
