Getting really tired of $115 a month for one Genie and two hd boxes for bedrooms. ATT likes long standing customers so much (16+years cell 4+ years DTV) That they will knock off a massive $5.50 each month. It's really $10 a month but my fiance has a business account that knocks a whopping $4.50 off each bill. Att told us that if we combined our services the $10 credit would knock out her business discount. Ultimately making 16+ years of screwing us on over priced cell service worth $5.50 to keep us as customers.

Yet new customers that get cell service and DTV get the following: 145 DTV channels with up to 4 rooms with hd dvr. 4 smart phone lines with shared 10gb data all for $200 month.
We currently pay $125 for 2 smartphone lines with only 1gig shared and $115 for the Xtreme DTV service to 3 rooms.

Joke huh?

Dish chat is non existent right now. Apparently they aren't 24/7 so coming here to hear about the problems with the Hopper before I jump the gun and get stuck for 2 years. I'm not understanding what it's capable of by itself and the whole Joey bit. I'll have the hopper in the living room and a box in each of the 2 bedrooms so it will be a 3 room setup. How many recordings can be done at a single time? Does someone watching tv interfere with what is recording?

Has the hopper come along way since 2013? I was seeing alot of bad stuff in reviews that far back but nothing more recent was coming up. Does it still update when it wants to? Obviously that would screw up any recording you have going on I would assume. I just want to make sure the switch is going to be beneficial or be more problematic. I'm not in a contract with DTV right now so I can go anywhere but TWC only allows 2 things to record at once and their service is like $75/mon.

I'm looking at the 2 year lock in rate so I don't end up paying $100 or something a month after the first year. So it's $49.99+$14 for the other two rooms+tax=$72-$74? Or are my figures incorrect and I'm missing something? Looking at the 190 channel package which is the top 120 or something like that.

If you have 4 rooms You'll want 2 hoppers and 2 joeys. This will give you the ability to record 6 shows at a time or 5 with prime time enabled. You can get 2 hoppers and 1 super joey and regular joey if you record and watch a lot of tv. This will give you a total of 7 tuners with prime time enabled or 8 without.

Keep in mind if all 4 tv's are on at once this will use 4 tuners leaving you with 3 or 4 to record with. Now if someone on one Hopper is recording 3 shows and another person is recording 2 shows then it would leave 2 tuners or 3 for recording or watching live tv.

Um 4 rooms? It would be a living room and 2 bedrooms. What is prime time enabled mean? Is that forcing one tuner to be in the mode that skips commercials? Forcing that tuner to only allow prime time (4, 5, 8, 11) to be the only viewable channels in prime time? What if most of the things that record are during prime time? Will that prime time tuner be used for recording prime time shows? What is the difference in a super joey vs standard? Do they charge you extra for one or the other? At any one time the max tv that would be getting watched is 2 rooms at a time. The master BR isn't in use until my fiance lays down at that time I go in the office and chill. Usually at that time the other bedroom wouldn't be in use either because it's 10pm and my daughters would be going to bed.

We are just now hitting the problem with the Genie where every now and then a show won't record because there are too many other shows recording. So we are hitting our max of what 5 shows at a time or what ever it is. (Had it so long not even sure what the max really calculates out to.)

HA just noticed the stupid Mobile menu button on dish's site. To get more information about their service. UGH I have how websites for the computer are going to the mobile look.

They aren't clear on this first part.

If your 8 favorite shows are on at the same time you're covered with the Hopper and the Super Joey. (Does that mean record 8 and watch nothing live? They state it clearly on the next bullet)

Without the Super Joey, you can still record 6 shows at once, while watching one. (Although is that limited to a dvr show or can a live show be watched?)

If you are running out of tuners now, then you may want to go with 2 Hoppers & 1 Joey. Turn on PTAT on 1 Hopper and you will be able to record all you want. If you don't plan to uses PIP, then I would actually put the Joey in the living room (if this is where you watch most of your TV), because you can if needed link the Joey to either Hopper at any time, this is the set up I currently have.

Even though the Hoppers aren't fully integrated, they still work together, for example if you go to set up a timer on one and there will be conflicts, it will ask you if you wish to set it up on the other Hopper. You can watch the recordings from any Hopper, or their attached EHD.

Also if you do go with Dish, hit one of us here up for a referral code to save each of us $50.

Their chat should be up in 14 minutes for me to clarify everything fully. Am I getting a case of beer out of that referral? LOL

Oh yea and since I found the extra mobile tab on the desktop site for more information I was looking at the add on channels. Not paying attention I went down the list. Ended up in the adult section toward the bottom. No offense to Latinos but What gives they get playboy for free with dish latino. LOL

The four networks (ABC NBC CBS FOX) can be recorded on one tuner. The Hopper has three tuners. So do the math, up to six channels can be recording at one time on the Hopper, but four of them would have to be the Networks leaving no tuners to watch something different live, but you could watch something that was recorded previously. Add a Super Joey and you can record two more channels, regular Joeys have no tuners and would use one of the Hopper's tuners.
Take the Networks out of the equation and you can have three channels recording at one time on the Hopper, with a Super Joey added you can record six channels again if not recording the four networks.
Make sure you know how DISH handles the RSN sports channels if that is important to you and make sure they carry the channels both local and national that you expect. Direct and DISH sometimes carry even different local channels.

I don't think you will be any happier after the discount ends with DISH than you are with Direct TV now if you will be expecting any big discounts, just an observation.

Yea sports doesn't matter to us. Anything we watch is on the local networks usually and if not it isn't that big of a deal. Not big sports fans.

Even when PTAT is not recording local channels still will share one tuner which is pretty nice.

And, if you are local to me, I would be happy to provide the case of beer for the referral, LOL :)

Not even close. LOL Man chat people are just like freaking car salesmen. I get on and blatantly state I just have some questions. About 6 times the lady tried to start getting information and stating lets set you up with that package yadda yadda GET A CLUE! OMG Looks like $78.99 a month for the next 2 years minus $10 for auto and electronic bill delivery so $68.99 a month. Which is saving $27.01 off what I'm paying right now for DirecTV plus a little extra because the tax will be less since the subtotal before tax is less.

Yes, I sent you a message with a code and some more information. It does have to be when the account is being built by the sales rep. If you want to know what you need prior to going in to tell the sales agent to make it that much easier, go ahead and ask and we can make sure you have everything prior to calling or chatting in.

Yea chat wasn't to clear on anything. :-( Said once it's available you can just get it. I'm sure there is more involved then "just getting it." Like a charge for the unit itself or extra montly fees for using it etc.

Unfortunately, not even the reps will know details until it comes out. It's all speculation until then to be honest. We know the 4K will have PIP and no tuners and that is about all we know. That and a new remote. There could be a likely up charge for it when it happens, but no one will know.
