Hopper Movie Search Questions

I want to search for movies to record on my Hopper. The way I do things now is painful but sorta works. My questions are:
A) Will this be easier on the Hopper 3?
B) Is there a better way to make this work on my Hopper 1?

The way I do things now is to press the search button, clear the search text and then enter the Filter mode.
Q: Does the Hopper 3 remember my last filter settings or at least give me a way to recall previous searches?

In Filter mode I select Movies and Free/Subscribed. My Hopper 1 tells me I have 500+ results. I try to narrow the results but many filters don't work as expected. For example, when I select New Releases and Program guide I always get 0 results. In fact, selecting anything but "all" gives zero results. Does the Hopper 3 still do this? I'd really prefer an option "Released this year" meaning it came to a channel within the past 365 days.

When the list is populated with 500 results, scrolling is slow on my Hopper 1. A single page down button press sometimes goes down two pages. Sometimes the icons on the page don't have a picture or text. Are these issues fixed with the Hopper 3?

After painfully scrolling to the middle of the list I find a program I want to record. After setting the timer, the list scrolls back to the top. DOH! Please tell me this is fixed on the Hopper 3!

Selecting the icon for a movie shows information for the movie in the corner. When multiple showings of a movie are available, the icon shows a number but no information without opening the icon and selecting a specific time. I guess this makes sense for shows with different episodes but it is very inconvenient for movies with identical info text. Does the Hopper 3 still have this limitation?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Right now, no. Hoping they improve search as I am seeing this as an important function even more with the new UI and H3.

The regular search does not have history any more. No filters either.

However, if you are on the home screen where you can select a few types of things like movies, sports and so on, there is an options setting to do some limited filtering, but not a whole lot.

Advise people who do not like this and other things to "kindly" provide constructive feedback on the main Dish forums as well. So they can see what they are not providing or getting wrong. You can also leave positive feedback, too!

H3 search comes up with the search text box empty unlike like previous receivers which fill that in from the current program. So that saves you a step if you aren't searching for currently selected program or something close to it.

YES. H3 is much faster at filling in the list and I had no trouble typing in a search or scrolling the list.

Can you post some more details on what sort of search filters are available on the Hopper 3?
A picture of the filter screen would be greatly appreciated!

<edit> I found this picture of the search screen but no filter.

I often don't want to search for a specific name, how do I search for say, every movie released this year? Can the Hopper 3 do that?

Yes, the general search function is weak and very limited. Hoping this is just for a very short time and Dish is working on pushing out a more robust search.

I am not at home to get a screen capture, but this should help get you there. From the Home screen you have the groups (tabs) along the top. If in one of those there should be a note in the upper-left part of the screen that says to use the remote's Option button (or red button if using a model 40 remote (the 'regular' ones!)).

Pressing Options/red button will bring up a window with I believe nine boxes. To filter by HD only, genre, etc... Hope I am remembering the right place but will confirm when I get home.

Check the options below. Definitely regular search does not have it.

EDIT:
I did see where this was at. It's only in the VOD section:

You have the options there:

They do have a release date option, but do not know what the definition of "new" is here (one month new? six months or a year new? ...)

When browsing the search results, a folder is shown when there are multiple times when a movie is showing. In order to set a timer for one of these showings, you have to navigate inside the folder and select which time you want to use. After doing this you have to press cancel to navigate back to the search list. On my older Hopper the list scrolls back to the top which means I have to scroll back down through many many shows to get to where I left off. Frustration! Note that if I set a timer on a search result that doesn't have a folder, it doesn't scroll back to the top.

Does the Hopper 3 remember your position in your search results in the folder case?

Thanks for the video option screenshots. It looks like many of the previous filters are included. I do chuckle that a "current release" is anything since 1980 (36 years ago Yikes!) Hopefully Dish will continue to refine these screens and apply them to regular searches as well as VoD.
