Maybe I like small or maybe small is better since the 211 is supposed to be for tailgating.
Fortunately on one of my 211 it actually is powering the drive.

And I would mind replacing it....the problem is I have not been able to find a 1TB drive that has an external power supply anywhere. Everyone has gone to 2TB and higher. All of the 1TB drives I find are the portable, USB powered type. The one I'm currently using was fine in it's application before. I'm a photographer and I was using it to store picture files. It's only about a year old.

By the way, thank you guys for your input on this.

Dish was selling Seagate 1TB drives on their website. Log in to your mydish account and look under "Order From Store." Unfortunately, they have been Out of Stock lately, but maybe Dish will bring them back.

Pretty sure I got this problem corrected, thanks to all.

I got a 2tb Seagate that seems to work nicely. Recorded a test 15 minutes or so and it played back without a hitch. I would like to ask of those that use a similar set up.....does the hard drive run non stop? Mine runs constantly, even when the receiver is off. Normal?
