the "I now have a hopper 3 and I have questions" thread

It was called "seek and record" on the old interface. Dish has removed it in the "improved" interface...

The new procedure is now called 'Record When Available' and is displayed in the search results when there are no other results. :)

I still don't like that. "When there are no other results". What if I'm searching for Jerry Lewis movies and want to set a timer for Jerry Lewis. But there is one movie on Netflix or VOD. Then 'Record When Available' does not show up. I should to able to set a Record When Available results or not.

To me the way it's implemented is backwards logic and should be considered a bug.

Don't jump on me. I didn't write the software. :)

Not what I'm seeing. Search for "van halen", for example, and see if you get that option.

My household misses the 4x fast forward. In addition fast forwarding on DVR programs is unreliable. Many times you are jumped 5 to 10 minutes ahead when you stop fast forwarding. The only reliable way is to skip forward. We don't hate all the material between show segments. The ads we like to skip are those that we have seen many times. New ads for things we really use are of interest. In addition, promos for upcoming new programs are of interest . 15x is just too fast to recognize what we would like to see. Skipping just doesn't allow any previewing.

Hello I guess this is where I should ask the question I have had my hopper 3 about 3 weeks. None of my tiles have populated like greys anatomy has not showed up with their picture is this just me or is happening to other people?

It's not uncommon for a 7-day wait on the icons.

7-14 days is crazy compared to the previous generations of Hoppers. In many instances, 24-hours was all it took and worst case, 72-hours.

My new H3 took less than 24 hours and all I did was turn it and all the Joeys off when I went to sleep and the next day all was good.

That was a bug. The issue was some of the Joey's were not releasing the tuners back to the Hopper (even though they were turned off) and thus maintenance was not being done including downloading things like icons and search indexes. This is what 304 fixed. :)

1 thing I don't like on the timer screen is it's nice to see all of the timers but the screen needs to show
the day of the timer with weekly recordings. It was a bit of a pain looking at the timer list and trying to figure
out what day the recording is set for.

Also when the DVR is recording a show is there any indication on the front panel? I thought I had
read some where that a red light below the green "On" light was supposed to be on when the DVR
was recording. I recorded 2 shows last night and I didn't see any indication of the front panel that
the DVR was recording a show.

With (16) tuners, it's no longer necessary to know if there's something recording, i.e. a possible conflict. This is presumably Dish's thinking behind why they got rid of it....

Well when things don't record it would be nice to see that the indicator is not lit but since there isn't one a person has to check the "red button twice" screen or the DVR screen to make sure it is actually recording.

Edit: The record indicator would be lit even if there was a conflict because it would still be recording the other timers.

Even with 16 timers and no conflicts, it would be nice to know that the timer I created is actually recording and I didn't mess up setting the timer. that was my thought behind my question.
