Camping setup?

At home I have a VIP722 looking at 61.5 and 72.7 working fine. I was thinking I could just take my receiver camping and set up a portable dish using 2 old single LNB dishes to catch both satellites. I tried this with a sw21 and the receiver only detects one satellite, the other says wrong sat on the on screen signal meter. From what I have read, I can only use 1 sat input of the 2 with single LNBs, but the combiner from my 1000.2 was still attached to the back of my receiver to both inputs during my test. Is the SW21 the incorrect item to use for this? Also, could I just use one single LNB dish to receive SD only channels and if so, which satellite would I need to point to? thanks

You need a Dish Pro LNB for each dish and at least a DP21 switch. Dish 500's have had a lot of electronics on them most is no longer compatible. Example a DP LNB will not work with a SW-21 switch.

I still have a Dish 500 dish which was for my old system at 110 and 119. Would those 2 satellites do anything for me to receive my programming in combination with the VIP722. Yea, looking to be cheap here.

A dish 500 is designed for use on the Western Arc on satellites 110 & 119. A Dish Pro Plus Twin on a single dish 500 with "Y" yoke and a single cable run to a separator on the back of the 722 will get you SD reception. I don't know what you have for spare parts but you can get reception on the cheap if you have the right components. If you do set up a Western Arc at one location and an Eastern Arc at a different location don't forget to run a check switch each time you move the receiver. Before you buy spare parts look at the cost of doing it correctly with a 1000.2EA.

Thanks for the info, I will give that a try this weekend since I have the Dish 500 on hand, and will switch check too.
