NOOB here...

So, a few weeks ago now, I upgraded from a couple 722s to a hopper 3 and 2 joeys.

I was told by a chat dish rep that the joeys have coax out. Come to find out that neither the hopper 3 nor joeys have coax out. Is there any way to get coax out other than a RF modulator?

The guy came and put in a new dish - the old was pointing southish and the new is pointing eastish.

Within days I noticed that my signal would dropout in a light rain with the new dish, whereas the old one's signal would sustain even in pretty heavy rain. Is this normal and to be expected? It sucks...

I immediately noticed that many of my channels were only available in HD, whereas the previous dish had almost all of my channels in SD and HD. I like to record many things in SD to save on hard drive space. I assume this is normal with the changing of the dish?

Then today, I noticed one of my recordings wasn't recording. I went to my favorites list and couldn't even find the channel, so I switched to all channels and found only the HD version and no SD version, which my timer was on... Only to then find out that MANY of my SD channels had disappeared, and thus MANY timers were now useless. UGGHH. Any input or experience with this? Are more to disappear in the future? I understand that it is likely to save bandwidth, and I'm fine with that, but some sort of notice should have been given and transferring my timers to the HD channels automatically would have been appropriate... WHY neither???

My zip is 75707 if that is needed...

thanks for reading and replying...

A few observations.
The Dish must be facing about South (Even though it is called the Eastern Arc) and before maybe about West. Were you only getting your locals in SD before because they appear to be only in HD on the Eastern Arc, your present install.

The Eastern Arc does have a little more rain fade but it should not be all that often. Maybe it was not peaked correctly.

The Eastern Arc has three satellites, and not including your locals if you are not getting the SD versions they probably did not install the third satellite, 77. You may only have the other two 61.5 and 72. If you want the SD versions of the Cable channels you may need them to come back, realign the dish and give you the third satellite. You will not get the SD version of your locals.

Eastern ARC ( eastern pointing 1000.2 dish ) has little to no SD channels if they have HD equivalents. In fact they have been removing the sd channels this month to make more room for more things to come: HD or maybe 4k? As for rain fade, yes you will find that eastern arc and mostly the new hybrid lnb that is used for the hopper 3 has more rain fade. Usually drops out before the storm hits , like Directv used to do when I had them. I don't have this happen with the regular eastern arc dish with the regular lnb. I have both dishes sitting side by side and can see my 211k on the regular eastern arc dish with the regular lnb and it only drops out when the rain gets really fierce. I can compare the two receivers during storms, using my a/v receiver inputs that they are connected to. I really think the new hybrid lnb that allows you to do 16 recordings at one time using the hopper 3, is more susceptible to rain fade.

Yes, he did explain that the new dish would allow for HD locals, whereas I had only SD before. I told him I wanted HD locals, but didn't know other things would be affected or changed...

I was using a compass on my phone to get the directions I used... guess it is not accurate...

On my diagnostics screen under switch status it shows 72 and 61.5, but if I go under signal strength and choose satellite 77 it shows signal strength of 59.
61.5 = 73
72 = 59

I really don't know what any of these things mean or what I am doing...

Doesn't sound like 77 was connected since it does not show under status but not sure why it shows under signal strength with a signal. If you want the SD versions of the cable channels have them return and connect the 77 satellite, and make sure the dish is pointed correctly. 61.5 seems ok but 72 may be a little low on signal though it varies by what transponder you check.

How do they connect or install 77? Is there a reason to not have done this to begin with?

Should I contact dish about connecting it? Would they do this for free? Or is this something I would need to pay out of pocket? If so, should I just contact an installer directly?

I also get:
110 = 62
119 = 62
129 = 61
148 = 62
and some others are shown that do not get a signal lock, but only 72 and 61.5 are shown under switch status...

DISH has been installing only the two satellites you get because till now almost no one needed 77 and those that had to have it did. But if you want the SD versions of channels (Not locals) you need 77. I would first try the installer and let them know you were not told you would lose the SD channels and you want the full ARC installed, which includes 77 where the SD channels are. See what they say. Other than taking up less room when recording is there a reason you need the SD versions?

There is no 1.4k Hybrid, so a Wing dish would needed to be installed if you want a Hopper 3 to use the 77.

Not worth it IMO.

Also even though you see signal strength numbers under the other satellites, thats not accurate.

You are seeing more than likely the default 72 readings under the 77,110,119,129,148.
But they are NOT LOCKED to those locations.
Dis-Regard .
On the New UI it says at the bottom 72 Locked even though I may have it on the 110.

That makes sense about needing a wing dish. Probably not worth the time and effort just to get the SD versions, which may not stay there a long time anyway.

okay, thanks

any input on this:

I was told by a chat dish rep that the joeys have coax out. Come to find out that neither the hopper 3 nor joeys have coax out. Is there any way to get coax out other than a RF modulator?

(such as a hub or switch or one of those special splitters that I used to have...sorry I don't know the proper terms)

I dont believe so, sorry.
You would need to use Component cables minimum.
These are HD receivers, So SD connections are not Top priority.

Might I ask why you want Coax out?
Do you have a lot of tvs to Mirror?

Troch77, I have tvs in other rooms that I want to occasionally watch and don't want to pay a joey fee for and don't need HD.

Tampa8, what is a reasonable signal average for my area?

I read in the hopper features guide, by my interpretation anyway, that I could be watching on my hopper, go to the joey and press play and join the hopper 3 viewing. I can't get this to work. Did I misunderstand or am I doing something wrong? I want to watch the same thing in two rooms (hopper3 and joey) and control them with one remote.

anybody know what are reasonable signal averages for 75707 or where to find this info?

Unless your locals are on 77, then you would not have it installed on a regular installation. If you are getting a signal from 148 then that's amazing as Dish no longer has a sat at 148.

His HD locals are from Dallas/Fort Worth and are on 61.5. The SD locals are on 110. He has no need for 77 at all. But, if he wants a Hopper 3 with HD locals at all, he must give up his SD channels.

I just tried to see what I would get on my Hopper 3 going to 148. It showed locked at 64, but also showed that it was locked to 119....
