new hopper 3 and dish, problems and questions

okay, thanks

any input on this:

I was told by a chat dish rep that the joeys have coax out. Come to find out that neither the hopper 3 nor joeys have coax out. Is there any way to get coax out other than a RF modulator?

(such as a hub or switch or one of those special splitters that I used to have...sorry I don't know the proper terms)

Nope,you only have 2 choices

1- RF Modulator

2- Active HDMI Splitter with HDMI Extender using CAT-5 or CAT-6 Ethernet Cable

Monoprice or Sewell Brand

I use a powered HDMI splitter and run HDMI cables thru the attic and down the door frames to behind the tvs in two other rooms, but the tvs have to have HDMI inputs. But no joey fees.

and no ability to watch a different channel than what is playing on the Hopper either.... ;)

One thing that no one touched on. Why are you recording in SD to save space? The H3 HD is YUGE! And if you ever run close to running out of space you can connect a USB 3.0 EHD to it which are really cheap nowadays.

My Hopper 3 HD shows only 1231 GB total space? My WD 2T external drive shows 1861 GB total space.

Well, since Dish allows you to add on an EHD as an extra storage device (Directv disables the interior drive if you add an EHD) not a problem. Just curious to make sure nothing was wrong with my internal drive.

Some people criticize or ask why I want to save space, but some people have 3 or more EHDs...seems like the same issue, not enough space, but a different way of dealing with it...

For an EHD, is it now possible to load and use it with over 1,000 programs?
My old receiver would only show the first 1,000 items.

Also, my hopper3 shows total space of 1231gb and free space of 340gb, so, about 72% full, but the DVR says it is 78% full.

A few nights ago after I rebooted it, it was 65% full, then I recorded only a few hours of tv overnight, but the next morning it showed 72% full.

So, it seems to always show 6 - 7% more than is actually used??? why???

Both times were with the trash emptied, but maybe they were still calculated in the %?

Is it possible to set a timer to automatically save to EHD?

At what HD% does it start deleting things? I would assume it would empty from trash first? then oldest nonprotected show? Does it do a full delete or put it in the trash?

Also, I read in the hopper features guide, by my interpretation anyway, that I could be watching on my hopper, go to the joey and press play and join the hopper 3 viewing. I can't get this to work. Did I misunderstand or am I doing something wrong? I want to watch the same thing in two rooms (hopper3 and joey) and control them with one remote. Possible?

and, anybody know what are reasonable signal averages for 75707 or where to find this info?

thanks again all

You can join whenever watching a live show by going to the activities screen. You cannot join when watching a recording. You can watch the same recording on the Hopper and multiple Joeys but you cannot join so each location is separate and must be controlled separately.

This is why I have RF modulators on my HWSs. My wife and I like to watch a recording at the same time sync with the same Hopper but on different TVs.

I've also noted that you cannot resume a program that is in process of being recorded? I was watching the Bears NFL game last night, which we were recording. It was about an hour into the game when I started watching (so still recording.) Watched for a while then we switched briefly to live TV (had some severe weather alerts) and then tried to go back to watching the game, obviously wanting to resume where I'd stopped. But the only option was watch live or start from the beginning.

This is a pain - not sure I understand why it cannot resume on a program that is still recording. I know I could do that on the Genie (though I'd never go back to the Genie from the H3!)

This resume issue has been a sore point for me since I went to DISH in 2007. We watch a lot of race car programs and like to watch shortly after they start recording. Sometimes would like to pause and resume later but you have to start the recording over. I have sent several emails to DISH about this issue, but, well we know how that has worked out. It has been posted long time ago that this feature not available was probably because of the Tivo law suit going on at the time. I sure hope DISH fixes this sometime in the future.

Actually resuming a program that is still recording was possible on the Hopper and HWS, at least since I got Dish back in 2014. However the Hopper 3 does not allow resuming programs that are still recording. Since this was a functionality that was present in 2014, and is still currently present on the HWS and Hopper, I also think it should be added back to the Hopper 3. And as you note this is an important functionality for sports fans. And I cannot believe Dish is actually considering force pushing the new UI to all hoppers in October which will remove the resume capability for programs still recording from all Hoppers. And that would make Dish the only cable or satellite provider in the country where it is not possible to resume a recording still in progress. As I have used DVRs from Direct TV, Time Warner, UVerse, Comcast and TiVo and ALL of them allow you to resume a program that is still recording.

Dish PLEASE fix this to allow resuming of recordings still in progress in the new UI before force pushing it out to all Hoppers and removing functionality from Dish DVRs that is present in every other DVR by every other satellite or cable provider in the country.

How do I find all of this information?

QUOTE="Troch77, post: 3946009, member: 195955"]There is no 1.4k Hybrid, so a Wing dish would needed to be installed if you want a Hopper 3 to use the 77.

Not worth it IMO.

Also even though you see signal strength numbers under the other satellites, thats not accurate.

You are seeing more than likely the default 72 readings under the 77,110,119,129,148.
But they are NOT LOCKED to those locations.
Dis-Regard .
On the New UI it says at the bottom 72 Locked even though I may have it on the 110.
