The PlayStation Vue Thread

I'm probably just wrong but did Hulu recently drop the ability to watch their programming on line for free? Maybe they haven't had that in a while but, if they did, it is no longer a choice it would appear.

Does anyone experience a problem with the PS Vue app in which, after it loads, it doesn't show your shows, favorite channels, etc. in any of the menus where that content would be listed (though the Guide grid still reflects my favorite channel choices). It prompts me to add favorites, shows, etc. in order for anything to appear in those places. I have to quit the app and start it up again so it will populate my shows and favorites again. This has only happened on the PS4, though I probably don't use my other devices enough to see if it happens there as well. It tends to glitch several times over a period of a few days, and then won't happen again for a few weeks. Weird.

Only weird problem that I've had lately was right in the middle of Monday night football it sent me back to the PlayStation log in screen. But I could still hear the audio from ESPN in the background. Logged back in and everything has been fine since then.

What kind of sound do you get with Playstation Vue? Just Stereo (2 channels)?

Yep, but if you have an AVR, you can have it process the two-channel audio stream with Pro Logic II to get a decent surround sound effect. There is a restriction with the audio stream on PS4, which prevents such processing, but I've come up with a workaround.

I would definitely recommend the service RandallA. I'm loving it so far. My bill for Playstation Vue and CBS all access is 41 a month. And I'm getting every show and channel I want to watch. My bill with Dish was a little over 100. Plus the picture quality is amazing. I think it's better than Dish and maybe Directv too. I've had very few issues with the service and it seems to be getting better all the time. I wanted to cut the cord to save some money and chose Vue over Sling because I get more channels, a DVR, and access to ABC, FOX, and NBC on demand content for less than Sling. And with sling I would still have to subscribe to Hulu to add network shows.

Probably my biggest complaint with it is the 28 day limit on the DVR. My wife and I like to record our shows when we're busy and watch when we have time. Which often times can be months down the road. Now we feel like we need to devote some time to watching TV so we can stay caught up on our shows and not miss anything. Otherwise the service is great!

A FireTV or PS4 is the way to go for VUE since they have the guide interface. Roku is fine if you don't mind no guide (maybe it will be implemented in the future). Quality is fine on either device in my opinion.

Cord Cutter News announced that PlayStation Vue has a new bundle for $64.99 called Ultra Core. This includes everything offered in the Elite Core bundle...PLUS... HBO & Showtime. HBO as a standalone subscription with Vue costs $15.00, per Vue website, Cinemax costs the same. There is no discount for Plus members for either subscription as there is for Showtime.*
*Someone PLEASE link the Cord Cutter News article about this? I still can't link on my cheap @$$ phone.

Until I see what both Hulu & DirecTV Now are offering as far as their streaming packages go, this most definitely is a gamechanger by Vue. $65.00 sounds very appealing for what they are offering & I imagine that you can use HBO Go instead of paying for HBO Now, along with Showtime Anytime instead of the Showtime pay app(or paying extra with either Hulu or Amazon Prime for their Showtime add-ons).

As promised, PlayStation Vue, Sony’s over-the-Internet live television service — has added both HBO and Cinemax to its channel roster. In addition to adding those two services, PlayStation Vue has also added a fourth channel plan called ‘Ultra.’ This makes four plans total, with prices starting at $30/month and ranging up to $65/month for Ultra (which in some cities will be ten dollars more at $75/month). You don’t need the Ultra plan in order to subscribe to the HBO and Cinemax offerings.

Sounds interesting.
How many streams at once is Vue?
5?
And besides Playstation what other devices work?
Roku stick?
Also is Playstation Network subscription also required?
Because thats basically another $60 a year or essentially $5 per month.
5 if I am not mistaken, but only one PS4 at a time. You can use as many rokus or fire devices as you have to hit the limit.

Edit:
Note: While five devices are supported, only one PS4™ console and one PS3™ console in the same home can stream simultaneously (at this time, you cannot stream on two PS4 consoles or two PS3 consoles at any given time). In addition, you can use PlayStation Vue Mobile on up to three iOS and Android devices, as well as PlayStation™Vue on Fire TV, Roku streaming devices, and Chromecast. Up to five total streams are supported at once.

The roku, fire tv, android devices, chromecast, ios airplay to the apple tv, and both playstations (3&4).
No, you have to have a ps network account, but not a paying one.

Here's the official word on devices and number of streams from the PS Vue FAQ:

How many devices can I stream PlayStation™Vue on at once?

A single PlayStation™Vue account can simultaneously stream PlayStation™Vue on up to one PS4 console and one PS3 console in the same home. (Note: at this time, you cannot stream on two PS4 consoles or two PS3 consoles at any given time.)

You can also use PlayStation™Vue Mobile on up to 3 iOS and Android devices, as well as PlayStation™Vue on Fire TV, Roku streaming devices, and Chromecast. Up to five total streams are supported at once!

Though you don't need a PS Plus ($60) subscription to be a PS Vue sub, it does give you discounts on some of the add-on channels, like Showtime. Unfortunately, there's no PS Plus discount for HBO or Cinemax. :(
