I need to add a third room to my setup. I already have a HR54 and a C61k. The upfront cost of a Mini is $99 and an HR24 is $199. Aside from that, does the monthly fee differ in any way? This is not clear on the directv.com website.

Thanks,
Ted

Or, you can get a h24/h25 for $99. DONT go mini, either the hr24 or h25 wil give you a backup if your genie goes down. The hr24 gives you some extra recording space, and you can still view your recordings from the same list in any room. It also wont max out your tuner limit.

OK. That was my next question, whether I could view all recordings on all TVs if I added the HR24.

The DVR. But there is no reason why you should pay $199 for one. There are many 'own' HR24 floating around for less.

Could you be more specific? I signed up for D* in August. It would've cost me $199 then and the website is telling me it will got $199 now to add an HR24 to my account. Is there a way to avoid that cost?

if you go on ebay, you'll likely find people "selling" their HR24s. some of those units are actually bought and paid boxes, and their owners have the right to sell them to anyone else who can then activate the receiver on a different account. the rest of those receivers are still leased recievers, but D* didnt want them back. those are receivers you will NOT be able to activate on a different account. the only way to tell one from the other is to get the RID of the box you want to buy, call D*, and ask them if it is owned or leased.

yYes, you MUST get the receiver ID and call DirecTV before you buy, the access card group will tell you whether the receiver is OK to buy. If you don't do this you might end up with a doorstop.

Curious, how exactly do you get ahold of the Access Card dept, ask for them ?
