DISH not required to give credits when channels go dark...

Consumers do have the power. Especially when it comes to a LUXURY service such as TV. The alternative is you can start a tv company of your own, and put those conditions in, even when it's out of your control.

Im fairly confident you couldn't start such a business even if one wanted too.
Not average citizens anyway.
Even if you had the money.
Dish ,Directv, Comcast and everyone else including the government would be all in line to flatten you.

Exactly. They pay billions per year, and expect to recoupe it. Someone had to front the money, and they are not going to take losses if they can prevent it.

Again, TV is a luxury. Not a utility.

I don't think anyone denied that.

What some are claiming customers pay money too, lots of it ,
And also don't want to take a loss either.

I agree its a poor system for a customer with these stupid one sided agreements.
Period.
It went from customer security and business Security, to now a binding chaining money grab thats beneficial to the Business world only.

Leaving the customer back side sore from something that was once just a simple process to access tv.

But again I already said Hey, Yous all agreed to the terms.

What I feel needs to change is they need to Lock the pricing at the time of your commitment.
You upgrade, then no raising of the rates for the term of their required commitment Periods.

I don't really feel like I take a loss when there are some channel disputes. Too many choices in regards to what to watch, certainly not a slave to one channel or another. I'm not sure what the "stupid one sided agreements" are, especially since I know when I enter into an agreement or contract what is expected and what I expect.

If people feel like their back side is sore then perhaps they are watching too much tv and not enjoying real life.

If people don't like the agreements, then go with cable. Most of them tend not to require a two year contract. It's really quite simple. If your provider has too many disputes for you, then just switch providers.

Again, tv is a luxury. It's not a utility nor is it a necessity. And it's not even a necessity to those places that have tornados and hurricanes, or any other natural disaster. Want that info, get a storm radio. Want guaranteed locked in pricing, get an antenna. You CHOOSE to enter into service with any provider and when you choose that, you choose to accept the terms prior to starting. Nothing unfair, just customers not understanding what they are agreeing to because of ignorance.

Well I wouldn't say people are ignorant.
I mean seriously, who would have ever thought Directv would start charging a fee for their 1st receiver.
Or that you would have to pay shipping on a leased receiver when you full filled your only required commitment with Dish.

Again there are many unprotected areas for the customer.
And as you said its TV, exactly should be smooth sailing no fine print no Phillipino blurting out 100 words per second about your contract terms.

I Wish the small businessman had half the protection these providers have in place.
And it not just their customers, how about their poor employees.

But for the 3rd time, Im in agreement.
Yous signed a contract. Live with it.
But it doesn't mean I agree with the morals of it.
Its not the Mafia after all.

Or is it?

The point is and always is, being the consumer you have less and less rights......
No, actually no "rights" have been taken away. It's a business transaction. MVPDs have a product you want. They can charge whatever they want. It's up to you if you agree to the terms. If the product is good enough for the price, you pay it. Why is this so difficult to understand? Presumably you're employed. You are free to go to your employer and set your hourly rate. They are free to accept your offer or not. Same thing.

I have no lobbyist, nor due you.......Dish and Direct do, so we get it socked to us!
They're only "socking it to you" because you LET them. What happened to personal responsibility? Don't like the agreement? DON'T SIGN IT. How much more power do you want?

Im fairly confident you couldn't start such a business even if one wanted too.
You may not be able to start a cable or satellite business from scratch, but you can probably purchase one.

The point is, the little guy loses....as usual....

Now in a perfect world we wouldn't need contracts would we?...The contracts are to protect and big bushiness and corporations.....That contract does nothing for the little guy, except lock HIM into a long term deal....

For those of you that think it fair fine.....Me, they suck like all the rest....I pay my bills, but have no recourse if they fail on your end!

What about not being subject to rate increases until the term of the contract is met? That sounds like something for the so called 'little guy' to me.

If you don't like the terms of the agreement don't get the service, it's as simple as that. This isn't life and death we're talking about, it's a luxury service that one choose to subscribe to.

When I first got satellite TV in the mid 90s, there were no contracts and for a two room setup with the most basic receivers, it was upwards of $700 or $800. Then the providers started heavily discounting the initial hardware costs and started requiring 2 year contracts as a way to ensure that they actually make money on you, so you don't get free or discounted hardware and cancel after a few months. These are businesses, the end goal of a business is to make a profit. I have no problem with contacts. In the fine print of every channel brochure I have ever seen from Dish or DirecTV, it says in small print 'channel availability subject to change'. Those are the terms you agree to, live with it or due without it.

So the service agreement is null and void?

There is no service contract if you OWN your equipment is what he's saying.
Plus the FLEX TV prepaid option.

That is not the case with Directv because you are not aloud to start new service without having 1 leased receiver on the account.
