Replacing a Joey 1.0

I currently have 2 HWS and 2 Joey 1.0 receivers (planning on dropping one Joey). The Joey I am keeping is so slow that it is basically unusable.

From reading the Forums, it seems like I have several possible solutions.
1. Request a replacement Joey and hope I get a 2.0 and that it helps.
2. Upgrade to a wireless Joey which “should” be as fast as a Joey 2.0.
3. Upgrade to a H3 receiver with 2 Wireless Joeys. No increase in Joey speed from other options but adds the H3.
4. Upgrade to a H3 receiver with 2 4K Joeys but lose Netflix ability on Joeys.

The two glitches in the equation are:
1. I am currently on a 2 dish Western Arc setup with 110 and 119 on the main dish and 129 on a wing dish due to LOS to the bird.
2. While I have RG-6 to one HWS location, the other locations are still RG-58 and there is no good way to run new cable.

From what I have read, these are the issues I face:
1. There does not seem to be a way to guarantee getting a 2.0 Joey and, even if I get one, my cabling “might” be contributing to my issues.
2. Moving to a H3 system would mean moving to the Eastern Arc requiring a whole new dish and receiver system.

Based on all this, it seems to me that the only real solution is a Wireless Joey.

Am I understanding all this correctly or am I missing anything?

If you would like to send a PM with your phone number and PIN I would be happy to review the options for your account.

Usually the refurbished joey 1 with the old UI are very slow. Request a new one (it will be 1.0) and hopefully (not very likely) you will get new one?
Put the joey in the room with RG59 cable, the joeys run fine on most rg59 cables.
Wait for the new UI - it runs better on joey 1, or get replacement Hopper - this will force an update to the new UI to the joey as well.
Go for Hopper3 and 2 wired or wireless joeys 2.0

Replacement devices are usually refurbished and refurbished hardware is usually the 'older' stuff, so in my opinion, odds are better that you'll just get another v1. An option, but not a guarantee, is to get a replacement and pay Dish to "install" it. As I understand, the installers usually only carry new equipment, not refurbished.

You could buy your own Joey - I've seen new ones for sale that are clearly indicated as being v2 units.

Well, I am set up to get a H3 and two 2.0 Joey's Saturday. I think this will fix the issue with slow response time but I just thought of another question. I currently have a OTA antenna feeding both my HWS boxes. With the new setup I will just have one feed to the H3. Does this mean I will only be able to watch a single OTA channels at any time or does the H3 allow for watching two different OTA channels at the same time? If not, can a USB OTA adapter be added to a Joey 2.0? Fortunately this is not a huge deal as our locals are carried by Dish just not in HD so we can work around it if we need to.

Correct, just now I only have one Hopper so I lose the ability to watch two different OTA channels at a time. However, the obvious solution is to just move the antenna connection from the Hopper that is going away to the TV itself and just watch my HD locals through it's tuner. Amazing how the simplest solution is usually the last one to pop into my brain.

:) Yes the refurbished receivers usually are the old stuff.

The installers carry whatever they have in the warehouse, the last time i saw new (non refurbished) joey 1.0 was about a year ago...

Just a quick follow up. Installer came Saturday and installed the H3 and two 2.0 Joey's. The H3 is nice and fast and the new interface is fairly easy to get used to. While not as fast as the H3, the new Joey's are significantly faster than the old ones and do just what we need them to. The only "complaint" I have is that there is no way to transfer all my wife's timers to the new system. Of course the upside to this is that starting over cleans up a lot of inactive timers she no longer uses so it balances out. All in all, I am pleased with the upgrade and appreciate all the advise and help I got in fixing my wife's issues with the 1.0 Joey.

Did you keep your old remotes ? If you ask, they often leave them or they'll do the transfer for you before they take them. It can certainly be done.

Jessica set me up with a Hopper 3 and a new Joey as well - got it installed on Sunday. I transferred timers just fine.

Yes, I kept all the old remotes and OTA tuners. Will the old remotes talk to the new system to transfer the settings? The installer said that they would not work due to different command protocols and software interface.

The installer is mistaken. Do you know how to pair the old remote to the receiver ? I can't remember exactly - go into Menu, Settings, Diagnostics, then scroll up and down until your 52.0 remote is listed on the far right. Press the SAT button on the old remote and it should pair. Once it does that, scroll up/down in the left-hand menu until you see a menu with options like "Restart Hopper, Restore... , Backup... ," and so on. Pick the 'restore' one.

It will restore more than just timers. It also includes things like your channel list, blocked channels, etc (which I think is nice).

You or your wife can continue to use the old remote if wanted as well.

Yes you can transfer the timers and settings from one H1 or H2 remote to an H3.

To pair the old remotes just push "home" on the new remote 2-3 times and you will get to the info screen showing the paired remotes, then push SAT on the old one and you will have 2 remote working with your Hopper3.
