Out here somewhere
The other day I installed an OPPO 203 UHD player. It has an HDMI input on it and I hooked the HWS HDMI output to it. I ran a set of component cables directly to the TV from the HWS also. In order to make things simpler for the wife for using the Harmony remote I setup a Activity to use the TV with just the component cabling input to the TV. Everything has worked fine up until today when the HWS updated to S542. Now it is giving me a HDCP error when trying to use the component cable hookup :(. This is BS as the HWS is only outputting 1080i which is not covered by HDCP. I restarted the HWS but still have the same problem.
Is there anyone out there that is using Component cables with S542 or has any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks, Gerry

It appears that possibly the problem finally went away. I switched to the HDMI feed through the OPPO for a while and then switched back to the component input feed and did not get the HDCP error. Hopefully it was just a update error that has now gone.. If anything changes I will be back :).

its normal to get an HDCP error when using a component connection when you also have an HDMI cable hooked up to a powered off connection because the HDMI cable is not able to get a successful handshake.

I get that on my rack monitor when I switch from it to my AVR for a couple of seconds until it works itself out. Everything blacks out and then comes back. I have my AVR on pass-through when off so the HwS reads a compatible HD device and the Component device pops right back on or continues to work.

I always thought that component connection 'bypassed' the whole 'copy protection' scheme.

Oh no. I get the HDCP pop up screen when using Component only, until the HwS detects a valid HDMI connection. So I have my AVR set on pass-through to my DLP and once everything does its handshake and whatnot then everything is fine.

I note that the UDP-203 has an HDMI input on it and you say that you have the HDMI from the Hopper plugged into it. Isn't that a pass-through even with the Oppo turned off? If so I don't see the need for the component cables at all....

Bobby, as noted in my initial post I am hooked up two different ways to my TV. It makes it much easier/simple to have a Harmony Activity that only turns on the HWS/TV and Soundbar when i'm not around and the wife wants to watch TV. Also, i'm actually evaluating PQ differences between using the component input from HWS vs HDMI to the OPPO and then to the TV. Just got the OPPO the other day. As of right now i'm not really seeing a huge difference between the two and if it doesn't work out I will go back to the HWS HDMI directly to TV. The X-reality Pro scaler in Sony is just that good ;).
