New Kiefer Sutherland series where he becomes president after an attach on the State of the Union Address and everyone else dies. Similar plot to the Tom Clancy books where Jack Ryan becomes president. Trailer looks pretty good.

Can a mod please change the title to the correct name "Designated Survivor"? I had a brain fart when I was typing it. Thanks!

I seem to remember a tv movie like this back in the 70s or 80s where the only survivor was an old black man who was the secretary of some lesser department. He had gone fishing and the rest of the government had been blown up in an attack on the capital during the state of the union address. It was some what of a comedy since he knew nothing about running the government. But I can't remember the name any longer.

I really liked the first episode. Best new show so far for me. I'm thinking conspiracy here.

S~
OH yes and I imagine that the military is behind the coup that we just watched in episode 1. After all they now have no one to get in their way. No congress, supreme court , because they were all blown to bits. All they have is this one president with little to no experience in the job. IF this happened in real life , we would all be under martial law and we would be at defcon 1 status. Would make 9/11 look like a small skirmish in relation . Civil rights would be suspended and national guard would be on the streets and we would most likely be at war with someone else in short order, in order to distract the country and show the world that we are still in control.

Great show. Only gripe I have is the same I had with 24, having to sometimes turn on captioning to understand the hushed voices.

The problem is see with it is all too often used plot where one party (in this case the General) will go to any lengths to circumvent/discredit the main character. Getting tired of such plots.

I don't think the military is behind it. Too obvious.
Sometimes the most obvious group is the one. IF not the military by itself, then a mixture of CIA or other clandestine organizations behind it, that would benefit from the total destruction of our government and it's institutions. Remember the old conspiracy theory about JFK and his assassination? They said the CIA was behind it. And don't forget that Eisenhower warned the country when he left office to be wary of the growth of the "Military Industrial Complex," and that was in the 50's . That complex is way bigger now and continuing to grow every year. Besides, I think that the one organization that would have the most support from the country out of all the government agencies, is and would be, the military. That support would allow them to effectively take over the running of the whole country in short order, after the head was effectively cut off the government.

That was one of the only parts that had it in for me also. The rest looked interesting enough to give it another viewing to see where it may lead. It should be an interesting series for a year or two at the most as afterwards the plot will have run it's course and sailed away. If they try dragging it out like Fox did to 24, I doubt people will tune in to it.

We enjoyed the first episode. Wasn't ready for it to end. I agree that this doesn't seem like a several season series because of the premise, but hopefully 1-2 seasons can be fun.

Never went back after season 1 myself (liked but the lie). the wife did every time I seen it on........... I cursed the TV

Really like this so far.
dramas/stories mostly not my thing. the last one that hooked me on the networks was Last Resort.

We might be better off.

You missed some good TV! Most of the seasons of 24 were good. There were only 2 questionable ones for me, but I can't remember the numbers anymore. Maybe 3 or 4? and 6 or 7?

The upfront trailers had me intrigued, so I tuned in. I'm pleasantly surprised at how Designated Survivor is turning out. I can't see this show going on for years though, unless it goes through a major plot change like Homeland.

I haven't watched anything on ABC for more then a few episodes since NYPD Blue ended. Is this three month long winter break nonsense normal for them?
