Logged into account this morning and saw 2 year commitment offer even with owned equipment with additional $480 savings so took it based on love of Hopper3 with 16 tuners.

The addition of AHC recently in HD played a big role in taking commitment plus having Redzone, Pac12 network both sportsman channels in HD makes Dish programming IMO superior to Directv programming.

With Top 250, multiports/Redzone, HBO, Starz, Cinemax and H3 monthly $116.
So props to Dish, now lets see more 4K

I am very happy with the current customer discount I am getting along with DISH moving channels to Top 200 so I could save another $10. Owning your own equipment does not preclude you from signing for a two year commitment.

I was in a commitment once before with Dish, leased HWS paying full $15 vs $10 now, also discounts ended after 12 months before normal pricing kicked in and no price lock. So after rate hikes kicked in and discounts ended I payed the ETF and went to Vue streaming. Difference this time is $20 discount monthly with price lock X24 mths plus the H3 is much better than HWS.

This is different I don't believe DISH offered current customer discounts similar to new customers before last year certainly not widely given. Those have been available leased or not.

keep checking your account and watch the receivers magically turn from owned to rented.....

That has happened to some but not too common. It's worth it to add DISH will replace an owned receiver at least they did for me when I asked. Receiver still says owned after many years. As a guess they just refurbish it as they would with a leased one.

My thought on this is instead of allowing customer to look for other options why not head it off at the pass. Offer discounts up front instead waiting on customer to become unhappy before they call to terminate business. Many times it's too late anyway with other commitments already made. I like this new way of doing business.

Maybe you aren't familiar with the DISH current customer discounts? That is exactly what it is, you can get them without complaining about cost or service. They approximate new customer discounts.

Well I've owned all of my receivers with DISH , on all 3 of my accounts, for over 20 and a half years , and I've yet to see them change . They show Purchased on all 3 of my accounts. Now I also have my paper copies of my receipts from DishDepot.com that shows I bought them. Also have the digital copies in my email folder for DISH on my computer, so I'm good if they ever try to change it.

I used to think your way and want to own all my equipment. Why?

Your better off getting whatever you want for free.

So what if it's leased, send it back when you no longer have a use for it.

I don't want DISH techs running around in my house with my 3 dogs, that is why I have always owned my receivers since the original install they did in 96. I learned how to do all my own installations since 2003 and also a "mover" so I really don't need them to come to my home. Besides I trade in my receivers for credit towards a new receiver from an online retailer. I just don't like leasing and I don't lease cars either. I own all my cars and always have.

I agree, but your paying for that luxury of not having a dish tech visit your house.

Why don't you call whatever retailer you deal with and have them do the upgrade?

I'm sure they will give you the equipment without installing it, as Dish pays them to install it regardless.

I do this for many of my DIRECTV customers and for Dish customers when I sold that.

That happened to me once after I transferred one of my owned receivers from one account to another. All I had to do was call the Office of the President phone number to complain and have them check the ownership status of that receiver. They got it changed back to purchased with no problem. I have since gotten a replacement for that receiver from Dish, and the replacement is also listed as purchased. :)

Well the online retailer I do business with is Dishdepot.com and they are in Florida,so that wouldn't work.
