Will the Hopper 3 do HEVC?

Yes, that is what the 4K content Dish gives us is encoded in.

I believe so as will the Joey 3.

And the 4K Joey, Wally, and (fairly certain) Hopper Duo as well.

An HEVC test that isn't explicitly 4K is both exciting and not exciting. Potentially implies new non-4K channels would be HEVC, as a carrot to get people into non-legacy hardware, as well as some future conversion from MPEG2/MPEG4 to HEVC.

there will be more content coming from dish real soon in 4k this will be the year and through 2020 for UHD

Try to find one story or even a rumor about a cable channel going 4K, you will be greatly disappointed.
