In the last few years my Hopper 3 has withstood numerous frontal attacks
from Dish software engineers and it has never broken.

Maybe they're targeting advanced users only ?

Do you not use an EHD? If you do, do you have no problems?

No EHD, OTA,Dish Anywhere, or streaming. I wrote that in another thread but you apparently didn't see that. As a standalone DVR the Hopper 3 is rock solid IMO. It seems to get in trouble when we start hanging peripherals on it.

Don't know why that is but expect it would be software related.

I had an EHD for a while but didn't use it as much as I thought I would and put it on my PC as a storage device. It had that wake up glitch but for me it didn't rise to the level of "problem". It's not the reason I took it off the Hopper.

I'm guessing that what is happening with the dual Hopper3 is the first indication of why Dish doesn't want two of them on the same account.

HWS has been on the edge of a cliff since CUI rollout. Don't really understand why you're shocked by any of this.

I'm lucky my heart is still ticking.

If my Hopper 3 stops ticking next week I'll call Dish and get another one.

Let’s say you lease a car. Six months later, they reflash the software to increase mpg and reduce performance. The mpg didn’t go up much, so they lower the top speed. A month later they decide you don’t need the tachometer or temperature gauges, that they’d rather you had flashier graphics on the dashboard. Then they decide you don’t need so much air conditioning and they cut that back. Then they require higher tire pressure to increase mpg at the expense of ride comfort. Then the adaptive cruise control decides to double the distance between you and the car ahead. They didn’t intend on that, but figured it wouldn’t bother too many people so they’ll let it ride.

Besides, it’s an unbreakable lease. Ain’t nobody goin’ nowhere.

But they’ll lease you next year’s model at higher cost, and by the way, you didn’t really need that spare tire or turbo to actually work, did you?
