Joey 3.0 low supply? And Hopper 3 to VIP series Comparison

I am thinking of upgrading from 2 VIP722's to Hopper 3 and Joey. I was told they could build request with Joey 3.0 but there would be no guarantee I would get the 3.0's but possibly 2.0 joey if that is all the tech has. I guess my question is should I hold out for 3.0 joey? What if I cancelled the install if tech showed up but without the joey 3.0 but 2.0? Or am I making this out to be a big deal and won't really notice?

Second issue, Comparison of Hopper 3.0 and Joey 3.0 versus the VIP series ( I know tuners, interface and such) but channel surfing and usability? I am re-upping 2 year commitment and don't want to really be disappointed with "upgrade" Real reason is we have had numerous times in past with channel conflicts and want to avoid happening again, otherwise we have been happy with the 2 VIP 722's but no good way to see programs from other receiver as picture quality with agile output on 70" TV just don't cut it!

Joey 3's a re more available now. Matter of fact, that's all I've installed in the last 2 weeks. There are a lot of benefits to the Hopper 3.

4K Receiver.
No more recording conflicts.
Entire home - all TV's - are 1 system where you can record, watch recordings and "move" from one room to another by pausing and picking up where you left off.
2TB's of storage
54.0 Remotes - light up, voice commands work well.
MUCH better access to On-Demand
Much better Favorites Lists abilities
Personalized Folders on the DVR
....I could go on

Do you want me to build the cons list? :)

What do you mean by “much better favorites lists abilities?”
Well, tbh, I never set one up on a VIP, but I have an idea of how it works andf IMO, it's just easier on a Hopper

Do you want me to build the cons list? :)

Sure, but regardless, al;l pros and cons are relative to each person's needs and wants., right?

Cons:

No 4x fast forward
DVR tiles instead of a sortable list
Recordings/timers mysteriously disappear
Dish Pass timer functionality has been replaced with Seek and Record, buggier and less flexible
Can't rename recordings
OTA tuner/recording is less reliable (also, can't manually add OTA channels to scanned list)

Well for the Cons the only 2 real ones for me are OTA recording (but that was to take advantage of resolving some recording conflicts as I do get both OTA and Sat), and to lesser extent 4x fast forward but very rarely used that anyways. The tiles may take some getting use to but hopefully the timers work as they should! Other Cons I really have not done other then using external hard drive connection and using the add on sling adapter for one the receivers over the internet when away on trips. I am just tired of the recording conflicts as I have had many recordings stopped by wife because she wants to watch something live and all receiver channels are being used and I get the shout out about that and then the stop program button is hit with the never mind!

Other wise we have been happy with the VIP 722 series and really all we know and have used for over 10 years! Having 2 of them should work for conflicts but then it is not on the "correct" TV to watch said programs. I have heard mostly positive things about the Hopper 3 and hope in the end it just does what it is suppose to do so I don't get the "I hate this thing" talk!

From what I have gathered most reviews are moving to Hopper 3 is a overall positive experience I just hope it is not to different for us to catch on to otherwise 2 years is going to be long time!

You'll be fine. People were hesitant to use Cordless phones, once upon a time and we all survived

Records/timers mysteriously disappear is far more accurate of both the original Hopper and the Hopper with Sling than the Hopper 3. I haven't had my H3 long enough to dispute the OTA tuner/recording, but so far so good. I often used OTA recordings to supplement the 3/6 tuner limit on the HWS. That limit greatly increased with the H3. So, now I only use OTA recordings for subchannels and better PQ. I do miss manually adding channels to the scanned list. That was on the older VIP receivers with the slide in OTA module. Even, the HWS didn't allow manually adding OTA channels.

I wouldn't bother with a HWS anymore. They're so slow these days after the Carbon UI update. Pay the upgrade fee.

Netflix loading and EXITING is much faster with the Hopper 3 vs the HWS.

Recordings/timers mysteriously disappear

Just some anecdotes:

I can honestly say this has never happened to me with the Hopper3. However, I can say it happened to me with the 722 and 622 I used to have. It may have happened once or twice with my original Hopper 2000. It also happened with TWC Navigator and DirecTV HR24 DVRs I used. I don't recall it ever happening with the various Tivos I've had.

I have had all three versions of the Hopper going back six years now and I have had disappearing timers happen on all three of them . Priority timers will some times change priority on their own as well. Setting timers from the guide and then try to edit them from the guide will occasionally bring up a different timer all together . As I posted this earlier in the thread my number one timer completely disappeared a while back and the priority of one of my timers was changed and was moved like 20 spaces down. About two or three weeks ago I missed TIMELESS episode 2 of this season because the timer was deleted on its own. Had to watch it on NBC app with commercials. These are minor inconveniences but still a problem. The Hopper 3 is not immune either. That is why I babysit my hopper now so I can make sure all my timers will fire and record like they are supposed to.

I have grown from the 3700 to 512, 622, 722 and each of the Hoppers.
Each change has been worth the upgrade especially the Hopper 3.
They have all had their issues but all beat the competitions hardware in their day.
I have been with Dish a couple decades and even when I decided to leave a couple years ago and go to TiVo I could never quite disconnect Dish.
I still have 2 TiVo Bolt 500 boxed up waiting for someone to make me an offer I can't refuse.
There may be a learning curve on the remote but the new backlighted version should help. That didn't exist when I got mine.
